Default Memories Music in Cowboy Bebop

The other day I was rewatching Cowboy Bebop: Sympathy for the Devil, and I was struck by something. Upon waking I was greeted by a man with a baseball bat talking about paying my debts.........what the hell??? I'm sorry, i'm not yet awake and my mind is running rampant.

Anyway, I was struck by the fact that that episode of Cowboy Bebop seems to reuse music from the earlier anime movie Memories. As Spike and the boy talk at gun point, one can hear the slow grandfather clock and choir combination also used in the Magnetic Rose section of Memories. It seems quite possible considering that Yoko Kanno composed the music for both Cowboy Bebop and that section of Memories.

I was jus wondering if anyone else had noticed this or any other Bebop music borrowings.

I can't say I quite noticed the similarity, but as you point out, it wouldn't be all that surprising if Yoko Kanno used a snippet of music she composed back for Memories in Cowboy Bebop.

Btw, speaking of Memories, apparently Sony has at least licensed it for theatrical release in the US, and it would make a DVD release very likely, which would be really good news.... this is one of those things that I had always heard would never be licensed because the licensing costs for it were so astronomical no-one would touch it.

the R2 (Japanese) DVD has English subtitles anyway, so one can go buy that ^_^ The Limited Edition R2 DVD of it is soooooooooooo nice (about the size of an LD, comes with a short but large art book). Shame the regular edition is the same price the limited edition was selling at when it was available (9800 yen).

When you have all the ost made by Yoko kano, you can easily recognise some song who are remix in different way, it's particulary evident for me in the ost of Escalow Memories =Macross pluss= Cowboy bebop = Raxephon ...
( And always a little song in french : Fantaisie Sign- or whith a little part in fr : Wo Qui non Coin-Cats On Mars-Idol_talk...
