![]() I dunno. Since I use my ratings these days to indicate enjoyment not quality, the system means little to me overall. The real gripe with the list is its bias toward newer stuff. Some of us would say that its an indication that quality is improving with time, but I KNOW that VivisQueen'll disagree. |

Everyone instantly rates the new shiny things highly, but then as newer shows come out, the old 'new' things drop down. The real test will be which shows continue to average highly despite eventually getting old.
*smiles at LOTGH's incredible achievement* ^_^

I think average ratings can be useful. Every reviewer has biases so it's helpful to see what the general audience thinks as well when considering what to watch. I agree that there is a limit to how much hype can be believed, but discounting it because of personal contempt seems unnecessary. Personal ratings are like Wikipedia: good for an introduction bad for citation. I disagree with the list--especially the number one slot--but still use average ratings because of my growing familiarity with my personal tastes in comparison to the accepted averages.

Code geass is a melodrama, cleverly disguised as a mecha show.
Although I liked it, but it never did get very high marks from me. I feel the same way about the latest show always making a huge splash, only to drop off after time. ;) Last edited by Funkgun; 11-04-2009 at 11:11 PM. |
