Spring 2013 Thoughts (No spoilers allowed)

Its been a month now and most series are on their 4th episode in the case of Red data girl on their 6th so the point of this thread is what you reckon will be the best to you for this season and the reasons why or which you are enjoying the most and anything you think isn't so great.

As for me personally

Top 5 currently:

1st: to aru kagaku no railgun (so far its going according to the manga)
2nd: Dansai bunri no crime edge (love the survival game setting its my dark horse so far.)
3rd: Yahari (an anime that makes a mockery of the typical harem setting great so far).
4th: Suisei no gargantia (despite a rough 3rd episode still enjoying it)
5th: Oreimo (enjoyed the light novel that I did read and I like to have a good comedy)

Top 5 by the end of their run (predictions)

1st: to aru kagaku no railgun (depends if it keeps to the manga or not)
2nd: Shingeki no kyojin (overhyped currently but has a huge amount of potential)
3rd: Devil survivor 2 (Honestly this is just wishful thinking doubt it will be this good)
4th: Mushibugyou (hints that it might get more interesting)
5th: Yahari (great so far I hope it will keep it up.)

The boring one

This goes to zettai boei Leviathan best way to describe the series so far would be to yawn.

umm seems like a way of compacting all the general chats into a nutshell and throwing them together but whatever i guess.
Problem is this would be better to started in 2 weeks, most are actually around episode 3 (it's closer to say around half are on 4 but that still means 3 to me is to early to say anything special).

Favourite this season so far is of course for me " Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru".

if i rank them (3 because i don't see anything else to say about others) mine would probably go:
1) Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru
2) Yuyushiki
3) Hentai Ouji to warawanai

Thoughts of other anime:
1) Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W - about what i expected, so it's a decent series so far.
2) Date A Live is looking to be very good so far and i quite look forward to it.
3) RDG is ok, slightly disappointing, not that im not liking it but it had a huge hyper and it seems i got to into episode 01 and it's not what i wanted yet... but it's still a decent watch don't get me wrong.
4) Oreimo - a let down? Disappointing... what ever, no episode so far has surpassed 'meh' to my reactions meter so currently running as a let down, but only 3 episodes does offer pick up time (i hope... see what i mean about waiting 2 weeks, gives series(s) a chance...)
5) Photo Kano... good god does Shit begin to describe how much i hate this? put simply, i see myself dropping it in a week or 2... and it's very uncommon for me to drop something .__.

any others... i can't think of from the top of my head :p

oh to edit in- RDG is NOT on episode 06! Web streams are but i for one do not consider them the episode count, TV is at episode 04 which means it's currently aired to episode 4... after all web streams isn't airing now is it .__.

It's hard to tell, though. The only 99.99999% sure spot in that prediction list is obviously Shingeki. For the rest I'm just guessing as follows:

-Yahari will keep being hilarious and relatable (it helps that the comedy execution is very much up my alley).
-Railgun Sisters will get pretty damn good once it kicks off. And yeah, Misaka is always a plus.
-Hataraku Maou-sama will still be funny but it'll lose a bit of its edge/novelty.
-Gargantia will be a good show overall, but just not as good as the first couple episodes suggested.
-Oreimo S2 will probably end up annoying me with a Kirino overuse, instead of focusing on oh-sweet Manami.

Honestly this list is provisional and could swap around if some shows get better or worse, but this is what I feel right now:

1. Attack on Titan. Everything I wanted it to be so far. A shot of adrenaline and adventure, intriguing and fairly imaginative world-building, a setup for a truly epic shonen action series. This is the kind of thing that if you're not watching it over the summer, you'll probably marathon the whole thing in a day or two when it's done.
2. The Flowers of Evil. What could be one of the best character studies in anime this year, with a socially awkward teenager with a really screwed up idea about relationships and things that start happening to him. The unusual animation choice - if there's ever even been another rotoscoped anime series, I haven't heard of it - distinguishes it visually for a story that could have otherwise looked unremarkable.
3. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. After a formulaic and disappointing third episode, and signs of some lazy stereotyping in the supporting cast, there are reasons to be concerned for Gargantia's quality, but it still has an intriguing sci-fi premise, boasted a promising premiere and the involvement of Gen Urubochi. It's still something I can recommend watching.

Very good point and my mistake I forget they don't always match so thanks for pointing that out. Overall I have to say this season is much better than expected and I am just happy that there is something to fill the void that Psycho pass and Shin sekai Yori left for me.

The point of the thread was to focus on this season specifically as I saw someone asking about what series to watch this season and with the collective tastes of many individuals it should cover something for everyone that was the aim anyway sorry if I was out of line.

I havn't read yahari but it is very amusing so far I been looking for a main protagonist like Hikki so I reckon it will be the best slice of life/comedy this season. Have no idea regarding Yuyushiki its one of the few I havn't watched yet. hentai ouji is alright so far and the characters are pretty cute but I am not sure if I can place in my personal top.

With Nyaruko chan I need to watch the first season, Date a live is pretty crazy not sure what to make of it but its pretty funny. RDG has potential and I normally don't really watch shojou series but I am not dismissing it yet. Yeah compared to first season you are right I guess I just really enjoyed the episode where they made an incredible parody of love plus I couldn't stop laughing.

Photo Kano apparently isn't that creepy in the manga and he actually joins the other photo club but I agree not one of the better series this season that is for sure.

This season has been pretty superb, i've picked up over 20 shows and only a couple are below at least average for me.

Top 5 Shows of the Season at the Moment

1 - Shingeki no Kyojin

The obvious choice, and i reckon it'll be the same for most people, or at least the ones who have picked it up. It's visually stunning, the characters are all extremely interesting, to this point their developing nicely, the voice work has been great and the story is not only pretty great but it's developing at a good pace. There hasn't been a negative of any note so far.

2 - Yahari ore.....the rest of it. Or OreGairu for short.

I had a feeling this show would be up my street, but i didn't expect it to be as good as it had been so far. For once in a romcom we have a male character who isn't a complete douchbag or a complete moron devoid of any personality or backbone. His self-depricating nature is always a great laugh and it's extremely well executed. The female lead is almost as good, and the secondary characters are all likable as well, with maybe just a single exception.

If it continues to be as funny, develop the characters well, and as self aware of itself as it has been so far it may well be one of my favourites of the genre as a whole by the time it ends. Very high hopes for this continuing well.

3 - To aru Kagaku no Railgun S

I'm a massive Index/Railgun fan. Nothing else really needs to be said here!

4 - Hataraku Maou-Sama

Probably my surprise of the season so far. It's been consistently hilarious with the comedy hitting all the right notes virtually every time. It has an extremely likable cast and a story that is just crazy enough without going overboard. I'm hoping it doesn't become stale as it continues.

Which reminds me, i have the new episode to watch now!

5 - Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet AND Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W

Can't decide between them, so it's a tie!

Gargantia would have been much higher but that last episode really made me worried about where the show is heading. The first two episodes were expertly crafted story wise and had an amazing attention to detail. The characters were all really great as well. But i felt the last episode undid a lot of the previous two's good work to the point where i'm concerned for the show going forward.

It's visually stunning though, the character designs are very different to Shingeki's, but as far as i'm concerned definitely their equal.

As for Nyaruko, it's the same crazy show that i loved from the first season, and that's more than fine. Not much to say again, those who like it know why it's up here!

Honorable mention would go to Red Data Girl, it's getting really interesting now. And the Hentai Prince, which has had a brilliant start, but seeing as it only has two episodes out so far other shows are more deserving at this moment in time.

Top (bottom?) 5 Worst Shows of the Season thus Far

1 - Zettai Bouei Leviathan

Boring story. Misfiring humour. Boring character designs. Characters are almost as stupid as some from Kotoura-San.

Just bad. So, so bad.

2 - Majestic Prince

Weird art style aside the plot is pretty lame, i'm not entirely sure if the writers intention was to create an interesting story for us to follow, but if it was then they failed hard. The characters are virtually all annoying, or just utterly cliched. It's like they knew this and decided to give one of them ZZZ size breasts in a low cut top, the head mechanic no less, who you know, welds and shit.

They also manage to make space battles filled with buttloads of mecha totally boring. Boring to the degree that i'm actually waiting for them to end so i can get back to watching the annoying characters have pointless and annoying conversations.

3 - Sparrows Hotel

If it wasn't a short it would be higher up on this list.

This shit looks like it was made in the 80's, it's visually repulsive for a modern title. The comedy is bland as well. Nothing else to say really.

4 - Arata Kangatari

Dumb show. Just dumb.

It just....ugh. I don't even want to go any further, it's annoying me quite a bit. LinkSword knows what i mean, he feels the same as me by reading his posts in the shows thread!

5 - Date A Live

It's good fun if you don't mind ignoring the lack of a well thought out and executed story. But it just has so many flaws that i can't overlook. I have no doubt the LN's are good, like many have said, but the anime falls short on most counts for me.

Tohka and Tobichii are pretty sweet though, i won't deny that.

What i think the Top 5 Will be when the Season Ends:

1 - Shingeki no Kyojin - Easily.
2 - Railgun - Just because i love it and it already looks like shit's going to get real.
3 - Yahari.....yeah, you know what one - Looks like it could become a great within it's genre.
4 - Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet - While i'm hesitant to get as excited as i once was about this series, i still think it will be a lot of fun in the end. If not considerably less than it eluded to going off it's first two episodes. I am disappoint.
5 - I actually can't say. Hataraku Maou-Sama, OreImo2 (it's been decent so far, but i expect it to get great sooner rather than later), Red Data Girl, Aku no Potato or Nyaruko could take it.

Thanks everyone for feedback so far and in such a short amount of time I hope this helps anyone who is an anime fan with not much time on there hands pick a series. A special thanks to Valondar and Bradalee for such an in-depth post and made me re-think my own choices a little.

However the general consensus so far is dat kyojin is a definite watch this season and the manga readers give it plenty of praise and from what I have heard its hard to disagree with this choice.

Best serious action: Kyojin

Best light hearted- action: Railgun (basically a series with build up episodes and not a serious or constant dire tone to the setting so I keep it seperate from Kyojin).

Best comedy: Yahari

Best mecha: Gargantia (if it can be counted as a mech series)

Best romance: ? (I am Not sure yet I am sure some of the manga and light novel readers have a better idea on this one.)

However despite how off putting the art work might be for some I definitely would give Aku no hana a chance if you like the story but despise the art there is a manga so give it a go. So we could be having Aku no hana fill the spot for best romance. Will be posting an update of my own in about 3 weeks as most series will hit their half way point.

For any major categories I have missed someone feel to correct me or add their own.

I don't know how you can like Nyaruko but dislike Date a live.
Nyaruko has neither plot or actual humor. It's more a show that revolves around it's strong characters. However it's a light hearted watch so it doesn't really matter.

I get why you would like Nyaruko but it seems strange that you would enjoy one light hearted show that doesn't have a good plot but dislike another...
is it because Date a live doesn't have
