Something a little more mature...

Looking for something mature? Something with a deep story and over the top violence? Well so am I... I have watched a lot of anime over the years and thoroughly enjoyed most of it. Lately I've been itching for something thats deep and complex, something for the adults. I believe this is a good place to post recommendations, thoughts, and reviews about adult oriented anime that will make you think. I have noticed the amount of adult anime has been on the rise and really hope this trend continues, as it seems to me anime is becoming more and more popular with my generation (the DBZ / 90's kids) leading the way. So, on that note, let's talk...

I'll lead the charge with a personal favorite of mine being Berserk. Great story, great characters, decent voice acting, steamy sex scenes, and amazing fight sequences all placed in a mid-evil era war ridden world. There are lot's of dark twists in there and the lead character Guts is a total badass killing-machine. Everything about this anime sucked me in and made want more...

If you like reading, the manga is by far the best one I've ever read and it's one of the longest running ones in history. It continues the story after the end of the anime and is still running for over 20 years now I believe.

... the mature themes tag is horribly inadequate for what he's looking for. because it's such a subjective descriptor, only a very small list of items that are more or less inarguable have had it added. the list of anime that actually deal with mature themes or subject matter or have a mature approach is much longer than that :/

yeah but it is a place to start...and besides the best way yet is to just look at what you have seen and search the anime by title to see what others would suggest...
