Sentai Filmworks Adds Queen's Blade: Rebellion TV Anime

3rd TV series based on Queen's Blade fantasy game books premiered on April 3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

North American anime licensor Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the Queen's Blade: Rebellion anime. The company noted it will release the anime "through select digital outlets soon" and then will release the series on home video. The company did not specify if it had licensed both the Queen's Blade: Rebellion television anime series and the Queen's Blade Rebellion Premium Visual Book original anime DVD that was bundled with a book of the same name in January.

The main story is set four years after the first Queen's Blade anime's storyline. Annelotte, who is played by voice actress Aya Endo, leads the army that stands up to the tyranny of the new queen.

The story originated in Hobby Japan's Queen's Blade fantasy game book franchise, which are Japanese spinoffs from Flying Buffalo's Lost Worlds game series. (In these games, players simulate turn-based fighting with books that each represent a character.) The Queen's Blade books also inspired the previous two television anime series and several original video anime volumes. The Rebellion storyline in particular already spawned two prologue original video anime DVDs that were bundled with the Queen's Blade Premium Visual Books.

A new director, Yousei Morino (I''s, Kakyūsei 2), is helming the third series at the studio ARMS, but Hideki Shirone is returning from Queen's Blade Utsukushiki Tōshi-tachi. Animation directors Takayuki Noguchi and Yukiko Ishibashi now join Rin-Sin on the character design duties. The anime premiered in Japan on April 3. Crunchyroll is streaming the series in various countries outside of Japan as it airs.

The North American anime distributor Media Blasters, when asked in March if it would "be getting and dubbing the rest of Queen's Blade" such as the Queen's Blade: Rebellion original video anime and television series, the company had replied then that "we will db all of QB."

tsuritama is the latest project from director Kenji Nakamura (Ayakashi - Samurai Horror Tales, Mononoke, Kūchū Buranko, C). The SF (seishun/adolescent fishing) story is set on the island of Enoshima in the Shōnan area south of Tokyo, and it follows four idiosyncratic youths: the one-quarter French, uncommunicative high school student Yuki (Ryota Ohsaka), the fishing enthusiast and self-proclaimed alien Haru (Miyu Irino), the island native Natsuki (Kouki Uchiyama), and the mysterious Indian Akira (Tomokazu Sugita) with his constant duck companion Tapioca.

Sentai Filmworks Licenses tsuritama

HOUSTON, April 18, 2012 — Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce their latest catch: Kenji Nakamura’s (Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales) tsuritama. Originally airing in Fuji Television’s prestigious noitaminA block, tsuritama is sure to be the catch of the day.

You can’t catch fish if you don’t go fishing, and you can’t make friends if you don’t at least try. Which is how relationship-challenged student Yuki finds himself on a fishing trip to a tiny island with three other boys he barely knows. Well, two other boys and Haru, who claims that he’s an alien. Not that constantly stewing Natsuki or mysterious Akira are any more likely as prospects for good companionship. But there’s something about fishing that makes it unlike any other pastime, and maybe that quiet sense of companionship and hopeful expectation is just what Yuki needs to start charting the unfamiliar waters of personal connections. Or maybe it will turn out that Haru’s right and they’re going to have to save the entire planet. There are lots of different kinds of fish stories, from the “ones that got away” to the “best catches ever,” but whichever way the currents of life take them, for four young men, this trip may turn out to be the biggest whopper ever in tsuritama!

tsuritama will begin release through select digital outlets soon with a home video release to follow.

About noitaminA: With a top rated late-night anime time slot and major advertising sponsorship from Japan’s largest corporations, Fuji Television’s prestigious noitaminA block was designed to drive creativity and innovation in the art of anime. Assembling high profile teams of creators to produce eight new half hour series per annum, from both famous literary works and original concepts, noitaminA has consistently produced unique and innovative programming that pushes the boundaries of animation to its edge and beyond.

Sentai Filmworks Licenses "Dusk Maiden of Amnesia"

Apr 19th 2012

HOUSTON, April 19, 2012— Join Sentai Filmworks for a mystery that must be solved from beyond the grave as they announce the North American licensing of Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. Director Shin Oonuma (ef: a tale of memories, ef: a tale of melodies) and character designer Yukiko Ban (.hack//SIGN) bring original creator Maybe's tale of death and haunting to life.

60 years ago, a young woman was left to die in the abandoned school building behind the exclusive Seikyou Academy. No one knows why. No one knows how. But the horrifying tale and the legends of the ghostly haunting that followed live on to this day. Perhaps it's not so surprising then, that among Seikyou's many school clubs is one for students interested in “paranormal investigations.” What might raise more than a few hairs, however, is that the founder of the club is the ghost herself. Unable to remember how she died and trapped in the grey land between life and death, Yūko latches onto Teiichi Niiya, a freshman who can inexplicably see her, and together they and the other unsuspecting members of the club begin to unravel the many dark mysteries that surround Seikyou. Will unlocking the secret of Yūko's gruesome death finally free her? Or will her sudden close association with a mortal have even stranger repercussions on both of their existences? In a tomb of silent classrooms, the answers await in Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia will begin release through select digital outlets soon with a home video release to follow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced at its panel at Anime Central on Friday that it has licensed the Cluster Edge, Hakuōki, Upotte!! and Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto television anime series.

Sentai Filmworks will release both the 25-episode Cluster Edge television anime series from 2005-2006, and the three-episode Cluster Edge OAV series that was released in 2006 with the ninth DVD volume of the television series. Masashi Ikeda (InuYasha, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) directed the series at Sunrise off of Tetsuko Takahashi's (InuYasha, Turn A Gundam) scripts. The series revolves around Agate Fluorite, a transfer student to an elite school populated by sons of important families from all over the world. However, Agate also has a secret power that can create miracles. Sentai Filmworks will release the series and OVA with extras as a subtitled-only DVD release.

Sentai Filmworks will release the Hakuōki television anime series on bilingual DVD. The anime adapts Idea Factory's Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan romance adventure game from Otomate, Idea Factory's brand aimed at female players. The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century. Sentai Filmworks told ANN that it will release "all of Hakuōki that is out right now." The Hakuōki anime franchise includes the 12-episode Hakuōki series, the 10-episode sequel series Hakuōki Hekketsu-roku, and the 6-episode Hakuōki Sekkaroku OVA series (the sixth episode will ship this June). The franchise also includes an upcoming prequel television anime series that will premiere this summer and two upcoming films that will premiere in 2013.

The Upotte!! original net anime (ONA) anime series is based on Kitsune Tennouji's original manga of the same name. In the manga, a newly hired teacher discovers that the female students at his school all have excellent marksmanship skills — and happen to be anthropomorphized assault rifles. Iori Nomizu and Misuzu Togashi lead the cast as Funko and Ichiroku, respectively. (The students' names reference the Japanese pronunciations for FNC, M16A4, and other guns.)

Takao Kato is directing the the anime at the studio Xebec, and Naruhisa Arakawa is in charge of the scripts. Akio Takami redesigned the characters for the anime. Sentai Filmworks will announce the details of the home video release for the series at a later date.

Sentai Filmworks will release the 2006-2007 Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto television anime series under the name Intrigue in the Bakumatsu ~ Irohanihoheto. Yoshimitsu Ohashi (Sacred Seven, Witchblade) served as chief director for the 26-episode series, and Ryousuke Takahashi (Armored Trooper Votoms, Gasaraki) is credited as the original creator and series director. Sentai Filmworks will announce the details for the home video release at a later date. The series takes place during the final years of Japan's Tokugawa era in the mid-19th century and follows Akizuki Yojiro, a mercenary whose sword has a supernatural power. Akizuki meets and helps out a traveling theater group who is looking to avenge the deaths of the parents of the group's leader.

The first anime's character designer Kenichi Yoshida and main mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori are also credited for "key character designs" and "Nirvash designs," respectively.

Kazuyoshi Katayama and Sunrise's film adaptation of Yuji Iwahara's King of Thorn manga follows Kasumi, a girl who was infected by a pandemic virus along with her twin sister Shizuku. Kasumi — but not Shizuku — was chosen to be among 159 other people who were placed into cryogenic suspension until a cure is found. The 160 wake up in the dark future populated by monsters, and Kasumi must survive while she searches for clues on what happened to the world and her sister.

Funimation presented a preview of the dub at its panel. The film held its world premiere at Spain's Sitges Film Festival in October 2010. Tokyopop published the entire 6-volume original manga before closing its North American publishing division last year.

Eureka 7: AO (Astral Ocean) – The story is set on Okinawa's isolated island of Iwado, which has seen a growing movement advocating a return to an autonomous government. Ao Fukai, a 13-year- old boy with a missing father, lives on the island with an old doctor named Toshio and is about to enter middle school. Ao's mother was taken away a decade ago by unknown individuals. Naru Arata, Ao's 13-year-old childhood friend and the story's heroine, lives with her father, older sister, and grandmother. She has a "Yuta" power awakened within her due to an incident when she was young. A mysterious entity called "Secret" suddenly appears and launches an attack on the Scub Coral lifeform on the island. Ao launches a certain military FP called "Nirvash" aboard a Japanese military transport in his fervent desire to protect the island.

Kasumi is one of those chosen for the experimental program. Forced to enter without her twin sister, Shizuku, her distress multiplies when she awakens to find the facility overrun with thick, thorny vines and ravenous monsters. As Kasumi and six others fight a losing battle to escape this labyrinthine nightmare, questions cloud her distorted mind. Where is her sister? Why did their only salvation mutate into a deathtrap?
