Father/Son Anime? (Need Recommendations!)

Recently, my dad has retired from his job as an air force mechanic. This is good, however I see him everyday watching old cowboy shows and looking bored. I was hoping i could find an anime that might interest him and give him something to do during the day. Maybe even something we could watch together and bond and all that good stuff. Does anyone have any ideas?

• I KNOW that he loves football and possibly other sports, but those aren't really my thing.
• As I stated ealrier, he also watches cowboy movies so something along those lines may also work.
• I've seen him make it through action/adventure movies, though he hasn't really expressed any interest in fantastic settings.
• I myself am pretty much fond of anything (especially shows with cool giant robots and action/comedy), though I tend to fall asleep when shows get too 'political' if you know what I mean.
• I wouldn't try recommending any shows that focus on high school students. I just can't see him enjoying that.

Monster looks a bit too serious. I don't want to scare him off, you know? Besides, i don't really think he's into psychological thrillers like that if these reviews are accurate about it. Anyway, I already went with Area 88 since he said he liked airplanes, and that's been going well so far. Still, since it's only 12 episodes long I could use more ideas!

I think Hajime no Ippo would be a great choice. It's about sports and at the same time it's unlike all other sports anime, so I'll probably pick both your fancies. Plenty of awesome action, cool characters and a nice sense of humor. It's not overcomplicated at all nor is it too simple, and above all else it's tons of fun and excitement.

Give it a few eps and I'm sure both of you will grow to like it, be hooked, and want more and more. It's one of those shows that reel you in so much you can actually end up standing from your seat, thrilled, and shout out to your screen like ''COME ON! DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!!'' and such. If you want bonding and fun with your father there's not much I can recommend over HnJ.

PS: Oh, and it's also got this old school feel to it he's bound to appreciate.

Use the Anime Recommendation Database. There are lots of ways to find shows.

1) Type in a show you liked and yout hink he will like too, and then see what other people say is similar and good for a next step.

2) Use the tags section to find certain traits of a show e.g. 'sports'

It's very easy and you'll find a billion things within minutes. In the mean time, don't be offended if a mod closes this thread, because recommendation threads are not allowed (I'm assuming you didn't get prior permission for your specific requirement).
