KGNE is realistic in the sense that the feelings involved are mostly believable. If that kind of "situation" would happen in real life, there's a good chance the outcome would be similar to what's portrayed in KGNE. It's a lot more than just a high school love story, KGNE's no School Days.
The definition of what's realistic and what isn't can very from a person to the other, but imo, an anime is story when both the premise and the outcome of a story can possibly happen in real life. For example, most of harem anime can't be realistic because they're missing at least one of the 2 criterias (see Kanon, School Days, Love Hina, etc). Okay, I know that KGNE is originally a harem style h-game, but please forget the fact that Akane has a crush on Takayuki and all you got is a love triangle. But yeah I guess it all depends on your own definition of what's really "realistic". Last edited by Fireaxe; 02-10-2008 at 08:32 PM. |

Might aswell add some of my own (I'd like to mention though that I do understand why these are liked, but not why they're SO liked.)
Code Geass I thought Geass was pretty okay, but yet I've had many encounters with people just downright worshipping it. In my eyes it's slightly over average, and I'm even one of the fanboys who loved Death Note. NGE A mecha series with a constantly whining emoboy and basic-leveled philosophy which of course is to be grasped as "deep" or else "you didn't get it". Also, put in some references to christanity, clichées and characters with no self esteem at all and there you have one of the best animes ever. I didn't dislike NGE, but it had so much hype that my expectations got the better of me which makes me regard it worse than it actually is. Last edited by vonpost; 02-10-2008 at 12:31 PM. |

Also... it really creeps me out that some of the most extreme fans of DN seem to be fans mostly because they would really, really, really like a death note of their own. Ick. - abunai |

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: When I thought it was a parody of mecha and shounen series (which it seemed like during the beginning comedic FLCL-like episodes) it was fun and interesting. But then it appeared that they were serious with the whole "all you need is guts to win". That was truly retarded imo.
Serial Experiments Lain: Not that bad, but pretty boring and definitely not as intelligent as most claim. Fate/Stay Night: Started out interesting but turned into a wimpy, stupid show with some of the lamest fights ever. Btw, I hate when characters go all cuddlywuddly and say that everyone's life is important, we can't hurt anyone. Haibane Renmei: Not a bad show, but it was pretty boring at some points and waaaaay overrated imo. Comic Party: The second worst anime (Final Approach being the worst) I've ever seen. My god what a bunch of idiotic characters. Mahou Sensei Negima: Harem in one of it's dumbest forms. Scrapped Princess: Uninteresting from start to finish Ghost In The Shell, SAC: I worked really hard to push myself through just 7 episodes of this snoozefest. Didn't notice anything exciting or particularly intelligent. Major Season 2&3: 1st season was good, but almost everything that was good there was made into such extreme in the next seasons that it ruined everything. Basicly every harem series. There are many more I hate but these are the ones I dislike (maybe a little, maybe much) that seems to be liked by many |

On a more serious note; I do understand why someone would fantasize over what you could achive with the possesion of a death note, however I doubt anyone would actually use it in that matter in real life. (I guess I should speak for myself, tho :p). I, for one, like Light due to the amount of good-guys I've been fed with in all kinds of stories. I guess I just were a little bit tired of "the hero". |

Hellsing - Okay, Alucard might be "cool" and "badass". That's what a show needs to be in your top 5?
Ouran high school host club - It was passable, didn't dislike it, just can't imagine why it would be someone's favourite unless you're a yaoi fan. Well, actually, I can imagine girls liking this, it's shoujo after all, but I also see a lot of guys praising the show, which I don't really understand. The humour was slightly amusing at best. Trigun - Firstly, it had too many episodes that seemed filler-ish and were simply boring. Secondly, even if it's close to superficially Cowboy Bebop, it just somehow fails at keeping you entertained. Again, just because the protagonist is cool, funny, unbeatable at fights and gains pity points because he has a painful past doesn't mean that the show is good, it needs something else, too. Chobits - Wasn't bad at all, I just happened to miss the part that was supposed to be awesome. |

Forgot to add:
Hoshi No Koe: It's too short to work as it's supposed imo. This is no short film, it's simply an extended trailer. Nothing besides introduction. Byousoku 5 Centimeter: Great animation and soundtrack. But rubbish characters and story. |

I agree on this, I've been getting alot of "but but Makoto Shinkai directed it, so it's awesome, right?", but the fact that 5cm p/s has gotten a big budget didn't seem to affect the story and characters as much as it affected the quality on the sound and animation.
