Ok I understand this sounds like a bit of a rant, but at this particular moment at which I have no life except anime I am getting highly frustrated. I hope this doesnt go against any rules just curious if Im the only one whose noticed it or am missing something.
![]() For the life of me I love shoujo anime Cant get enough of it but Im starting to notice a dwindle in it. For some reason I dont think its specifically the genre Shoujo that i like so much I think its a coincedence that the animes that i like are Shoujo. Oh let me start from the begining. ![]() I am very new to the whole manga and anime thing just came into it about last year, well the year before last year through naruto. But anyways I still dont know much except that reading it is not the same so manga is out of the question! I wish i could see manga the same as I see reading a book. I mean i hate reading but I think actual books are easier for me to visualize... I dont know Im weird maybe its just the reading right to left thing I always get confused. ANYWHO! The point is I like on anime! in that whole industry thingy I cant read manga so When an anime i like only has 26 episodes and its left off on a cliff hanger and wikipedia cant fill me in on what happend I get so mad , on top of that its so hard to find a good story. ![]() I have dropped several anime (more than several nearly everything I come across) that people always recommend to me They are like "You will love this anime" and then i watch like 1-5 episodes and i'm like "This isn't what i wanted". I cant explain it but the anime I like to see and entertainment in general is usually something with romance and a Girl or guy is Great at something could be anything even if it was like making snot come out of their nose everyday or something (not that Id watch that). An extraordinary person that the story revolves around and its so hard to find it because I cant say extraordinary without people thinking i mean some sort of action anime with mechs and out this world things. I just meant extraordinary Like Ichigo from Gakuen Alice, or the Girl from Yumeiro Pastissierre (think her name was ichigo too) and the mains from One Piece, Naruto, Skip Beat (ESPECIALLY), the Glass Mask (ESPECIALLY) etc. I was kinda curious is there was a Genre that addressed that sort of thing... because it would sure help my search at least what those characters would be called. ![]() Itd kinda be nice though if some companies or whatever produces the manga to an anime took on some more of those kinds Because it seems like I have watched or sampled every single shoujo out there thats an anime... or any romance with comedy. ![]() And yes the smilies panel just exploded all over this post

so you're talking about the combination of tournament arc (or at least skill development) + romance? shoujo is indeed where you're most likely to find that cross-section but you could try some shounen as well.
bear in mind that threads specifically asking for recommendations aren't really allowed on this forum. it's kind of the whole point of having the main site. I would try to recommend search terms for you but it's kind of an awkward niche of stuff you're after. I would specifically have suggested searching by a combination of genres and character tags; however, the character tagging is nowhere near complete (I just tested for one of the anime I would have recommended for you [Planetes, for reference] and there's no way you could stumble on it the way I had hoped.) my advice would be to try to find someone with similar taste, or at least taste you trust, and either check out their ratings and reviews or just approach them for help directly. |

I wasn't asking for anime like that. I just wanted to know if there was a name for those types of characters and if anyone knew why there is such a small amount of shoujo out there in anime or if their was even alot of manga like that because its kinda tedious to go through manga lists and read symposis of things i have no intention of even reading . I figure there should be more like that because I mean almost every anime Ive watched fully or half way through I noticed that the characters had something people admired but I'm specifically talking the ability that the characters have to like out shine someone else and how the events unfold as though they have rivals and enemies in nearly every episode There should be like a genre for that.Im new to anime and manga so i just wanted to know if i was right to call it shoujo....and shounen or if i was missing something and it was called something else. I recently discovered tsundere characters thats what led to me wonder if there was also a way to name characters like these. ![]() I kinda went off course a bit in the cryptic message sorry

There's no specific word for the kind of character/anime you are describing. From the sheer amount of good anime you have dropped and rate low I think you just need to slow down and read through some synopses and recs on this site and pick out things that sounds specific to your needs. You've dropped a lot of anime I would see as obvious recommendations so it's probable that you're not completely adept at describing exactly what you are looking for. In my experience, when you start out in anime listening to your friends bombard you with series saying "you'll love this" is not a good idea. You need to discover it all for yourself. There are plenty of characters out there for you to fall in love with and find extraordinary. But by the sounds of things only you know what you're looking for. You probably need to start with the Skip Beat recs...

Yeah, I'd advise to just pick up some of those you've dropped and view them with a different standpoint that isn't "my friends said I'd love it."
Dropping good anime because the hype wasn't "correct" is really regrettable. |

i never understood what other peoples feelings about an anime had to do with anything...who cares what "they" said about it...it is you watching it... to have expectations of what an anime will be to you based on what others say isn't relational to me...i enjoy an anime based on what i see not what they say...

Yea.... I think i sorta misunderstood the the meaning of "Dropped" simply because some of the anime that i dropped, its not particularaly that i dont like it but that I've lost the motivation to continue watching it because of some sort of reason within the anime that i didnt like and may come back to it so I just put the anime that i did like and put it as stalled instead. Im actually thinking of watching some of them now. But I actually found alot of shoujo manga that fit the description of what I meant by the Special person shoujo romance thingy. I have to look into this more though because people actually like the manga so wasnt it ever animated its so good. But yea I think i am gonna go back and watch some of the anime I've stopped watching and see if i can at least pass the time.
