The Five Star Stories

Pretty good movie. Too bad it was only 66 minutes long. I really think it needed to be longer. I felt confused during the whole movie. It felt as if I was watching a sequel, which I never saw the first movie. I looked and of course there is no other series or movie. They must have cut out a lot of back story or something. Some of the animation bothered me too. With animes from the 80's I either like the animation or I dislike it. This is one I did not like. It was the female characters that bothered me.

I just don't think the style looks good at all

well she's a much bigger anime fan then i am. MUCH bigger... and her obsessions switch from anime to anime on a weekly basis. lol... just a month or two ago it was Haruhi she was fixated on.

But it's all good. The biggest advantage to her obsession is she's got a nice supply of cosplay costumes from conventions... but i'll not go any further then that... lol

Lupin the third. Episode 0
(TV Movie Special)

Quite an interesting background story. The animation was high enough, to be on par with other recent movies and specials.
I have been wanting to see this for some time, and it did not disapoint.
it followed through with the supposed history, but leaves you wondering if the story Jigen was telling of the past, was the truth... And for my money I am thinking it was
7/10
Top notch Lupin. Better than the last one I saw; Green vs Red IMO.

I used to like this one shot. But it definitely looks odd. If there was ever an anime to be considered the ultimate skinny weight watchers anime; this was it. Even the Mecha was slender.
Although the designs were odd, the animation (all Cel) was very fluid however.
yeah too bad it is only about an hour long.

The male characters looked normal, but the female characters were way too skinny. I think they tried too hard to make them look cute.

Maybe because everyone had predictably tragic back stories that were horribly cliche? Maybe because there was only one girl in the harem worth his time of day (as pathetic as he was) and that was Tomoyo, the only girl with a backbone and will to act on her own, who wasn't a snarky backstabber tsundere (*cough* Kyou *cough*), and didn't need to be "fixed".

ah well... i suppose i shouldn't hate on it that much. As i said... my gf loved it, and it got her off her Hayate obsession.
I agree with the Clannad stuff, Tomoyo was by far my favourite. It's too bad there's no english translation for Tomoyo After because I really want to read it.

Ga-Rei -Zero-

From the offset, this reminded me of Tokko. Good looking teenagers having to battle creatures that dragged themselves from the bowels of hell. All very gory, plenty of action and some pretty sword battles.

The animation was certainly top notch, and I highly recommend a HD version to fully appreciate the stylish artwork. The soundtrack was a fun, rocking orgy that matched the onscreen battles perfectly. Unfortunately, the OP and ED were pretty forgettable.

One of my favourite things about this show were the characters and their development. The relationship between the two main girls was very touching, even if you do find out about the betrayal in the first couple of episodes from the funny timeline/episode order. The story is left very open at the end, as apparently this is a prequel to the manga (which I really want to read now).

I started with a comparison to Tokko, and I'll finish with one. Both have some slick fighting and hurtle towards an exciting climax, which I felt never actually happened. Up until the last episode, Ga-Rei was probably a 4.5/5, but the unbelievable dissapointment I felt at the end knocked it to a 3.5/5.

A fun watch, but don't expect a fully rounded package.

Bamboo Blade

I'm far too stoned/lazy to say anything more about this show than that it was good, light-hearted fun. I can't decide whether to give it 3.5 or 4 stars.

What made that look even more bizare was the giant shoulders on the outfits. Fatima looked like they would blow away if a gust of wind hit them.

Actually the main guy made a prettier girl.
