I just finished Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. (a.f.k. took forever to sub it, but their sub quality is so good that I don't mind the wait. ^^) The middle of the show bored me, but after several weeks without it, I really enjoyed watching it again. I need to rewatch it in slow motion to get all of the chalkboard jokes though.

I watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (KGNE) in one sitting today, and I must say that I'm stunned... After like 10 episodes, I wanted to punch each main character in the face for blatant stupidity, especially Takayuki. But then I understood where they were going with the story, and I just LOVED the ending. It's seriously one of the best ending I've ever seen... Yeah.... I'm a dude and I almost cried (k, maybe I did just a bit >.<). Call me a sissy all you want :D
KGNE isn't as depressing as some might say, I would say it's "frustrating" to watch because you seriously get angry at the characters sometimes. Actually, this might be the best aspect of this show; watching this, you go through a lot of really intense feelings, laughter, hate, sadness, compassion. I developed a strong taste for the series which take place during several years, in various stages of the life of the characters. I can relate more easily to characters of those series since they become a bit older, maybe it's just me :p Another pro: - Well, it's a pure Romance/slice of life show, there's nothing else to it, but it's a damn good love story. ** Those who loved Saikano (like me) will most likely love this one also. The settings are totally different, but you go through the same feelings watching those two series. Cons: - Some might find the tone of the show overly dramatic at times. - Not really a con, but I didn't really like the scenes with Ayu and Mayu. It's not that they were bad or not funny, just thought they were unnecessary. I'm not rating it yet though, I really loved it but I'm wondering if I thought it was better that FMP and Rahxephon... I'll let my brain cool down a bit before I take my final decision =) Last edited by Fireaxe; 01-05-2008 at 06:40 PM. Reason: typos |

I'm almost done wolf's rain.
But I need to know what the hell was with those 4 "recap" episodes.... What a waist of time. I'm use to 1 recap eps but why 4?!

I know right, I found that ridiculous as well. Come to think of it I think when the show aired on Adult Swim they never showed the recap episodes, I guess they found 4 to be too much.

Just finished Inukami, thought it was great. For those that are about to watch/want to, just get past the second episode and then it becomes a really good anime, only getting better with each episode.
*edit* Just watched the OVA/movie, and it was hilarious.

I just finished Mushishi and it was everything I expected it to be... a beautifully animated, introspective, zen-like show. I can see the similarities to Kino's Journey as an episodic, thought-provoking series with a fairly objective protagonist. I think overall I liked Kino's Journey more because it dealt more with social and cultural issues. Still, Mushishi is definitely going to be in my top 10.
Speaking of Kino's Journey, I finally got my hands on a subbed copy of the 2007 OVA/Movie Country of Disease - For You. Overall it felt like one of the weaker episodes from the series but still a fantastic watch and pretty good continuation of the series. I also finished Legend of Basara. I had read what's been translated from the manga awhile ago and was interested to see this interpretation. As far as I can recall, it was fairly spot-on. Animation was typical from the late 1990s. I think the producers thought the show would be extended more than 13 episodes because it ends at a somewhat awkwardly. Lastly, I watched Whisper of the Heart. Not one of my favorites. At almost 2 hours my wife and I were still trying to figure out where the hell the story was going. In hindsight, there was a story but the pacing was horrible. Whisper of the Heart kind of felt like extended fluff. Now onto Higurashi - Season 2!!! |

After watching Kimi ga Nozomu Eien today and realized how much I loved it, I went straight to the OVA...
Just finished watching it, and the only words that come to mind are : "wtf was that?" EDIT: Oh god I'm so stupid.... before anyone mentions it, yeah, I just realized that this was the first of a 3 episodes OVA. Everything makes a little bit more sense now, Last edited by Fireaxe; 01-06-2008 at 09:12 AM. Reason: cause I'm dumb |
