Best dark animes...
 

I'm a newcomer, so if my thread is not right, sorry for that... If so, I will learn from my errors! ^_^

I wanted to know what are your favourites dark animes... The definition of "dark" can fluctuate by people's perceptions but just use your instinct to decide which anime can be described as "dark"...

So, here is my personal list:
-Serial Experiments Lain (So dark and psychedelic!)
-Requiem From The Darkness (In my opinion, the darkest one!)
-Boogiepop Phantom
-Texhnolyze
-Paranoia Agents
-Blame!
-Cat Soup
-Comedy
-Le Portrait De Petite Cossette
-Pale Cocoon
-Angel's Egg

Higurashi no naku koro ni (And Kai)
Cat Soup
Comedy
Betterman
Death Note
GANTZ
Shadow Star Narutaru
and the underlined ones are in my top five

I'm also watching Gungrave because i have heard lots of good things about it, I only saw the first episode and didn't really like it, but I'm going to keep watching it because it seems that lots of people like it and it best not to judge a show by the first episode.

Anything I think can be considered dark (More so then not only) and that I liked (Underlined for me too is in top five):

3 X 3 Eyes (Both OVAs)
Basilisk
Berserk
Cat Soup
Claymore
Elfen Lied
Gilgamesh
Hellsing OVA
Serial Experiments Lain
Vampire Princess Miyu OVA

Possibly fit in this catagory:

Haibane Renmei
Kino no Tabi

Definitely don't judge Gungrave on the first episode, it changes drastically on episode 2. (*Thinks he remembers correctly* Changes in the beginning somewhere for sure though :p)

Underline the animes in the top 5 is a pretty good idea! In my case, All animes I wrote are in my top 20 so...

For Haibane Renmei and Kino no Tabi, they contain dark themes and dark moments but, in my opinion, the majority is not really dark... Very good animes tough! I also hesitated with Mushishi and Saikano that has their dark moments...
