What animes started out great, and just lost something as the series went on? For me, I would have to say Claymore and Death Note.
Claymore started out great, but, in my opinion, they simply picked up the anime too quickly. The manga is nowhere near done, and when you are creating an anime that is faithful to the manga, this can be a problem. The last six or so episodes of the anime were a huge disappointment, with the ridiculously drawn-out and predictable fight with Rigardo, to the "synching with my Yoki" bit. -.- Death Note. This is my favorite anime, but after episode 25 something died along with...well, you know. New unlikable characters come in and Light is such a jackass that I just wanted both him and Near to die. The reason it is still my favorite is due to the epicness of the first arc and how I still enjoyed it, though less, in the second. What about you? |

Anyways, Death Note is a big one for me. It started out good but went downhill way way too quickly. The biggest thing was that FBI guy's girlfriend and her interaction with Light. Considering she's supposed to be smart, it's hard to believe anyone that isn't mentally handicapped would believe the kind of BS Light spouts. The show started grounded in reality (at least as much as the basic premise allows) started going too much into fantasy and annoying staredown matches. Actually DN going downhill was why I got into Code Geass . . . and then they had that buddy fight complete with the annoying Japanese male pop-ish buddy fight music.

Heroic Legend Of Arslan, last two parts or so where completely changed in tune and just became crap.
Ergo Proxy, The first disc (First four episodes or so) where actually enjoyable, but then it slowly went downhill till it was crap. Fullmetal Alchemist, Towards the end it somewhat lost its magic that made it such a good show, but that was only the last two or so episodes. Gungrave, The end as well seemed overly drawn out and forced. The Hakkenden, It started out very well, but slowly became jumbled and unorganized, the point became drowned out. Rurouni Kenshin, Needless to say the last arc was very dissapointing compared to the rest of the show, though it was still above average. Tokko, Last thing I finished and it went to unmotivated to pointless. On the other hand Claymore's end wasn't very bad, it was the same quality and same vein as the rest of the series (That is till the very end (End of the last episode)). Though the manga will probably be just that better. Lastly I suspect when the fillers in Naruto start I will drop it. |

Gantz- The beggining was awsome but after the Buddha Temple arc, it went to crap.
Samurai Deeper Kyo- The beginning was good and the show looked promising, but they just didnt execute it well. Zero no Tsukamia's second season mainly because it was just fanservice and very little story to it. NGE- the beginning up to the middle was pretty good, but the last half was just them all crying.... boring. Eureka Seven- I really like this anime until the last 5 episodes, i thought that they were just running out of ideas and just threw them in there. |
