Japan's equivalent of the Oscars for anime
What are Japan's equivalent of the Oscars/Golden Globe Awards for anime?
I know there's Animage's Grand Prix Awards, but I think that recently, it's as valuable as the People's Choice Awards (i.e., anyone can vote), in which fans of the show will vote for their favorite show/characters/VAs to win, as evidenced by Gundam Seed Destiny and Code Geass. If the general public were allowed to vote in the Oscars, then we'll see the Twilight and Transformers films duking it out for Best Picture.

it is hard to say ...the article i read was not to positive in it's representation of the awards ....seeming to feel that they were not as important as ...say the academy awards...but this was sankaku so who can say what it means...

Gran Prix is quoted a lot.
Manga is a lot easier, Shogakukan has been dolling out awards since manga was even on the radar.
