YOUR INPUT NEEDED: Slayers relations

i know this will be a nasty one.

please post with how these are related, what order to watch them in, AND WHY... and if you can think of alternate ways post that here too. please be as specific as possible. since there are so many i might have to post a few different suggested orders.

Movies and ovas with Lina and Naga go before Slayers, before Lina meets Gourry. That is, all the movies/ovas except Slayers Premium. They don't have a plot that carries over so it doesn't really matter in which order you view them, they're just stories of their adventures together. Premium happens somewhere around Next and Try, but I haven't seen those two so I don't know for sure. You missed Lost Universe :)

heres teh big writeup ive had for awhile btw:

1. The Naga saga

Lina is shown at the age of 15 and is travelling together with Naga the Serpent.


2. The Gourry saga

Here's Lina shown at the age of 16, together with the swordsman Gourry and later with some other sidekicks.


Both aren't related, only Lina is beeing in both sagas. *spoiler* Except one time Naga appears in Premium for some seconds, but her face isn't shown, only her laugh. */spoiler*
Still you should watch the Naga saga after the Gourry saga or at least after NEXT, because in all the OVAs and movies Lina is equiped with something she did receive in NEXT and only didn't have in The Slayers (1st series) *spoiler* (talismans she received from Xellos in one of the first eps of NEXT) */spoiler*.

The movie Premium should be watched before Slayers Try because Gourry gives something away what he did have in Slayers, NEXT and Premium *spoiler* (his sword of light) */spoiler* and because the beginning of Premium fits more to the end of NEXT than to Try, if you've watched Slayers you know what I mean. It's not "that" important for the story but if you watch it in a row it's better to watch it in this order.

Then for the OVAs. Slayers: Excellent should be watched before Slayers: The Book of Spells because in Excellent, Lina meets Naga for the first time.


The viewing order should be like:

Gourry saga:

Slayers, The (TV)

Meet Lina Inverse, one of the most powerful sorceresses. She steals from the bad and gives it to the poor (and who could be poorer than she self?). One of her nicknames is "Bandit Killer" and she gives it right to the beginning credit by wiping out an army of bandits, and stealing their treasure ("But they're bad guys, so that makes it okay"). Later she meets the handsome but dumb swordsman Gourry, who assumes she's a little girl (due to lina's height and her flat chest) and needs help. So they start travel together. Now add an artifact of great magical power and some powerfull, bad guys and you have a great adventure for the two where more treasures and companions are awaiting them.


Slayers NEXT
Slayers Premium (5th movie)
Slayers Try

Then Naga saga:

Slayers: Excellent (OVA 2)

Contains 3 stand alone episodes. In the first ep Lina and Naga meet for the first time.



The rest you can simply mix:

Slayers: The Book of Spells (OVA 1)
Slayers: The Motion Picture (Perfect) (1st movie)
Slayers Gorgeous (3rd movie)
Slayers Great (4th movie)
Slayers Return (2nd movie)

I agree, the only real order that is important to follow is Slayers, Slayers Next and Slayers Try. The rest can just be watched anyway you want.

Slayers to start, Slayer Try to end. My memory of it is staring to get real bad, I can't even find my Premium DVD. I wanted to check something about Gourry sword, but all I know is that the DVD isn't where it’s supposed to be.

Don't they hint in the first slayers that Lina is much older then she says she is? And then after fighting shabringo (Or howver you spell it) her hair turns white...

Edit: I just recently finished all three seasons and just got all the movies and both ovas in the mail, I will watch them in a similiar order as to what you said and see how that works while my memory is still fresh...

After re-watching some of Slayers (all - series), I can say that there is a set time line, but to set it all in a watch order might not be good.

Anyway here is the time line, not to be confused with a watch order.
The OVA's all prequel the Movies in time line.
1. Slayers Excellent (because we get to see how Lina and Naga met)
2. Slayers Book of Spells (Slayers Special)

The movies all prequel the tv series in the time line.
1. Slayer Perfect
2. Slayer Return
3. Slayer Great
4. Slayer Gorgeous.

The tv series all prequel other shows time line.
1. The Slayers
2. Slayers Premium
3. The Slayers Next
4. The Slayers Try

As for other shows in the time line.
5. Lost Universe. :D

After watching all of the OVAs, movies, and seasons I must conclude that this is how they are related:

Slayers Special (The Book Of Spells, OVA 1):

Watch this after Excellent (Second OVA) and before everything else, though you can watch the TV series first if you want, its feeling matches the second OVA well while it takes place afterward.

Slayers Excellent (OVA 2):

Watch this first, since this is when Lina meets Naga, her first companion (That we know of).

Slayers The Motion Picture (Movie 1):

Although this takes place after the OVAs and before the series I believe you should watch this last.

It goes into Gourry’s ancestry although he is not in the movie you should be acquainted with Gourry before you watch it.

So I suggest watch it last, but you can watch it after the first season if you wish.

Slayers Return (Movie 2):

Any time after the OVAs and before the TV, but after the TV is fine.

Slayers Great (Movie 3):

Any time after the OVAs and before the TV, but after the TV is fine.

Slayers Gorgeous (Movie 4):

Any time after the 3rd movie and before the TV, though after the TV is fine.

Slayers Premium(Movie 5):

After Next (2nd season), but before Try (3rd season).

Slayers (Season 1):

After all OVAs and movies except movie one and five.

Slayers Next (Season 2):

After season 1.

Slayers Try (Season 3):

After season 2.



So I suggest you watch it in this order though it is not laid in stone:

Slayers Excellent (2nd OVA)
Slayers Special (The Book Of Spells (1st OVA))

the only one thatll be covered already is the slayers movie (with the foggy island) as i have ethat one mostly completed
