I still wonder how that port is going to turn out...... computers struggle to host minecraft servers. Are you going to be able to turn your own 360 into a host without red-ringing instantly?

Invisible walls + Minecraft = Does not compute!
They should have put a gigantic wall of creepers at the edges of the map set to blow up when you come near instead - would have been much more fun! I need to pick up Gitaroo man at some point.

Since this place has been so dead. I'd like to throw out the fact that E3 was very uneventful.... meaning no really cool new games.
Last of Us, Halo 4, the new splinter cell may be very awesome, and Beyond looks fucking awesome. Lastly God of War still never fails to amaze me, but that was all that I got from the show this year. |

Watch Dogs and Assassins Creed 3 looked pretty cool too.
Yes, overall a pretty boring E3. Still waiting on more info on the Wii U. Last edited by KnoxSe7eN; 06-08-2012 at 12:39 AM. |

Games I was excited about at E3 are:
Tomb Raider: Main things that caught my attention was the impressive use of environment interaction, and the explanation of its Zelda/Metroid style branching open world which you can unlock new paths by collecting items, solving puzzles, etc. And damn does the action and platforming look slick. Far Cry 3: Overall, much of the footage excited me and seems to be heading in a very interesting direction both in tone and the potential for dynamic, explosive, sandbox action more in the spirit of the PC original and Crysis. Although, I do still worry it could turn out to be an awful disappointment like Far Cry 2 was... Certainly looks promising though. The coop mode could also be pretty fun too, but the demo was so hectic it was a little hard to tell what was going on. Watch Dogs: This was the star of the entire show for me by a long shot. A major breath of fresh air in terms of creativity in a rather stale market, and a fairly stealth-oriented looking game at that. Although, I do hope that it isn't mandatory for things to devolve into a shooting sequence when completing missions like in the end of the demo. Dishonored: Wasn't sure what to make of this game during some of the earlier announcements, but I've gotten rather interested since seeing gameplay demonstrations. I'm particularly excited by the fact that the entire game can be played completely in stealth even going to the extent of not killing anybody to complete it. All around it seems like a great combination of BioShock powers mixed with open Thief-like level design and stealth. The Last of Us: This was a very pleasant surprise for me considering how much the Survival Horror and Stealth genres have fallen lately as it seems to take heavy inspiration from both and combines them together. Pikmin 3: Not a lot to say about this one, mostly I was just really happy to see a new Pikmin game after many years finally unveiled. Sure, it was hinted at before, but real gameplay footage speaks much louder than empty marketing words. Metal Gear Rising: Platinum Games seems to be doing what they do best since they took over the project. This was on the lower end of my list compared to the rest of the above ones, but it seems to be heading in a fairly good direction and I'll definitely be keeping my eye on it. Games I was disappointed with at E3: Splinter Cell Blacklist: While it might still be a good game and I'll likely try it when it comes out, I'm saddened by the direction it's headed and frustrated to see the destruction of the stealth genre. At this point, it's gone almost completely action-oriented with the only real "stealth" being hit and run tactics. I was already disappointed by what Conviction had become and this an even more action-heavy evolution of that. Resident Evil 6: Similar feelings as above, but this time it's the death of the Survival Horror genre. Watching Leon fight his way through swarms of zombies in one of the demonstrations, ripping them to pieces with over the top martial arts moves and a slow mo gun finisher was disheartening to say the least... Again, it may still be a good game in the end and I'll give it a chance, but I'm sad to see Survival Horror dying. Dead Space 3: Also seems to have very little to do with Survival Horror anymore, maybe even less so than Resident Evil 6. Tons of brightly lit outdoor snow footage and even the darker parts were so fast paced and action packed it was a bit ridiculous. All around, it seems to have forgotten its roots and become a pure action game. Games I'm interested in, but didn't see any new footage that excited me: God of War Ascension: I like the God of War games and I was glad to see actual campaign footage, finally. However, outside of the levitation power (which did look rather neat), the rest of it was fairly predictable. Should be fun, but very little about it has surprised me at all. Assassin's Creed 3: I'm very glad they're finally moving onto something different as Assassin's Creed 2's sequels were milked so excessively that the beaten horse had died long ago and its entrails were strewn about the floor. That said, while some of the new tweaks looked amusing, much of it was more of the expected same for series and again nothing wowed me. However, one thing I do have to mention... that entire naval battle footage bit was just downright stupid, I don't see how this enhances the core of what Assassin's Creed is about at all. Rayman Legends: I'm certainly interested in this one and love the (platforming) series overall, but outside of showing off the gimmick potential of tablet controls (which I really couldn't care less about), much of the actual gameplay seemed like pretty standard stuff. It still looks fun, but nothing remotely surprising. --- One game I'm just not even sure how to classify in a list is the new Devil May Cry game, or in this case "DmC." The gameplay is certainly looking like a huge improvement over what was presented before, but the excessive swearing is just annoying and immature, and the overall attitude and tone of the entire game still feels very, very wrong... I'm not quite sure what to make of it overall, but at the very least the gameplay is looking up and I'll try to remain somewhat optimistic, but the rest feels just wrong. In the end though, if it's fun, I'll still play it. I'm also somewhat curious about ZombiU primarily because it seems to be actually taking Survival Horror seriously, but I don't quite know what to make of what little gameplay footage has been shown yet. --- That's all I can think of offhand, there may have been other stuff, but if I've forgotten it already, it probably wasn't that important to me to begin with. (Splinter Cell entry edited for coherency and less repetition.) Last edited by KelsieKatt; 06-08-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

Speaking of Last of Us, did you hear about the behind closed doors demo:
E3 2012: The 17-Minute Last of Us Demo - IGN Obviously no footage or screens, but the ideas make sense. Like in the conference demo when Joel runs out of bullets and ellie chucks a brick at the guy to help out. If you still had 1 or 2 in the chamber or hadn't tried firing the gun how would that scene have changed? and they experiment with that a bit. This fits the survival horror genre better, but finally a game with guns that (seems so far) to make the ammo count. And searching every corner isn't just for collectibles and/or building your caps count. But just trying to make it so that you will be able to advance through the next section. |
