i thought it might be nice to have a specific place to discuss old school games ....in my case i mean pc games from ...oh...1990 to about 2000.......that was such a good time for games ....some of my favorites come from that decade....

Obitus was the first real ....game i played on a computer....well the magic candle if you count ancient games on dos....but it was a hard game and you start off knowing nothing....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obitus the only reason i even bought a computer was to play myst... then there was shooters ...doom and then half life....which i still play ...the new release of black mesa is epic.... then there is dungeon master 2 ...didn't like the first one as much...a game that turns games on their head ...your the bad guy killing and torturing the heros.... the game of games is system shock 2.....a game i can't stop playing....i'm play it now........ unreal ...if you haven't played it your missing out ...a long and complex game ...so beautiful that when it came out people were blown away with the graphics... the rebirth of the rpg started with might and magic 6 a game that still intrigues me and keeps me playing... daggerfall the game before morrowind in the elder schools series ...it was before auto map....and the game world was so huge that players got hopelessly lost and had to start over... kings quest....i believe 6 or so ...that was a great one too.... |

Might be cool.
Currently going through Master of Orion 2 - Very Difficult Choices mod (not really, it's just the name) and Jagged Alliance 2 (which I consider pretty much the best game of all times), with Tais' SCI mod compilation, 1.13 + HAM + AUN + STOMP... Might try Urban Chaos + 1.13 next, then Wildfire + HAM + STOMP... Then there's Baldur's Gate (that arguably stretches into 2001), here it gets a bit more complicated with all the mods, I could post my Weidu log I guess, it's not as excessive as previous installations, the first time I tried the Big World Setup (as opposed to the Big World Install now) I ended up using like 30gb of space just for mods. You know, I used to play some strange german economy simulator at a friends place (The Patrician, I think they're up to 4 or 5 now), back when hotseat was still a thing, and one of the games they had was Myst. Never really could get into it, I wanted more stuff happening...like in Settlers and Settlers 2. My earliest passion were point and click adventures though. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was pretty baller, happened to be one of my favourite film series at the time too. |

i'm not saying that games after 2000 are bad they just aren't old school...in that the games of 1990 - 2000 were breaking the ground ...the styles and controls formats were all loose and undefined ....most games now have a pretty common control pattern...and the idea that graphics equals good game in the minds of a lot of people...ooooh pretty syndrome....back then ..the graphics were basic and so if you did not have plot you had nothing....

i suppose it is the fact that this was the formative period of gaming...that fascinates me so much....so many experimental games some that went over good ...some that were unplayable...
jurassic park: trespasser was probably the best example of a great idea don't horribly wrong...the only game where i actually cut the disk up in self defense... |

Why would anyone think that you said that? The 90s were just sort of pioneering years (okay, not really, more like a gold rush), there were much more new things being tried and gaming wasn't such a well established and huge industry. The stakes were lower so people gambled more.
