Right, the basic premise is that we get some kind of forum-roleplay-story-thread going. The problem is, though, that I want to make sure there's an agreed upon setting before we start, and enough people interested in taking part. Once people decide whether they want in, I'll decide the specifics with input from those looking to play. If you have any interest and/or suggestions, post away.

I guess I could pitch in now and then. We did something like this on another board I was on. The rules were pretty basic:
--> No killing off characters other than your own --> No writing other people out of character or making them do stupid things (unless that IS their character) ... And that was about it. The thread revolved around a certain item which everyone wanted to get hold of, which they obtained through combat, so most people's posts would end with them acquiring said item from the original holder after an elaborate fight sequence or some lowdown trickery. Eventually a few of us got a little more creative and broke the mold. Everyone RP'd their username, and could take on pretty much any characteristics they wanted. Surprisingly, most were humble and mature enough not to abuse the system and to make characters with weaknesses and quirks that could provide many lulz. I don't know how you want to run this one, though, but I can probably help with the rules re: making it fun for people. Edit: Now I think about it, there were unspoken rules RE: formatting. Action lines in italics and speech done script style, with each character having a colour of choice, like this: But, again, if people want to format differently, or not to have formatting rules at all, that's cool too Last edited by therik; 06-07-2009 at 06:16 AM. |

I'm surprised at the level of interest shown so far.
therik, I originally had in mind that people would take turns posting (small-ish?) walls of text, but your idea seems more workable. Everyone who's expressed interest so far, feel free to suggest a setting (the "get the item" idea is just a little bit overused for my tastes, but if everyone likes that, then I'm happy with it). Also, I'm wondering to what degree everyone would be interested in character development. Is it a better idea to provide a summary of one's character prior to beginning the RP, or would you rather get right into it and reveal information about your character as things progress? |
