As hard as it is to believe, this site gets more spam accounts/bots, then most fansites for MMOs. There are ways to prevent such(the bigger MMO fan sites have done such, with a high lv of success, after it becace such a big problem, they had to do something, luckily these forums aren't that bad yet), but sadly It's all technical/hidden stuff, that only a coder for X site would know, I would strongly suggest that the admins of this site, try contacting such MMO sites, and ask them how they handled their spam/bot account issues.

I think what they are probably doing is about the best they can with the resources available which I guess is banning as they come and IP blocking where they can. At work we use a fairly expensive firewall with subscriptions to extensive blacklists to block these kinda people out and it works well but seeing as AP is run out of Sothis's pocket and donations that won't be happening here unless you have a lot of money to donate ;)

at this point i dont think its worth pointing out nthe forum spammers - theres clearly too many to deal with, and until vbulletin fixes whatever issue is going on it'll continue happening

one thing I see come up a lot when I search on the topic is that captcha is indeed somewhat outdated as a form of human verification. most people seem to suggest switching to or adding Q&A fields, such as asking someone to type 'e v a n g e l i o n' without spaces or asking what their favourite anime is, on registration.
if you don't have and don't want to pay for akismet there's a free alternative available, might be worth looking into. if vbulletin is looking into the situation further than that they're not releasing any info to that effect that I've seen :/ |

What people can do to help to minimize spam would be skimming through the recent user blogs list and on the forum the memberlist every now and then and report the finds.
