So, I was thinking, AP really should have a Top 100 list. But you could make it unique to AP by using the number of recommendations as the determining factor.
So, anime that have the most recommended TO: If you like Death Note, then you should watch Code Geass. <--- In this instance, it's Code Geass that should get the point. So it's the ones that get the most referrals to them. And maybe, in this list, there would be a scroll-down/drop-down feature so you could see all the recommendations that were made to this anime. And you could then divide this down into genre-specific lists. 100 most recommended Fantasy, Horror, Shoujo etc. These could then show up in the tag pages of the parent tags (because 100 most High School anime might be too tough and not really be helpful).

It would tell you which anime are similar to many other anime. In other words, it would tell you which anime are most typical, not which are the best. I don't think I would use such a feature very often.

I quite like this idea. Would definitely be nteresting to see, plus it could help encourage people to make recommendations!

So a show that has fifty recommendations from one show loses to a show that has 60 recommendations from various different anime. EDIT: Zakiel - indeed, it's just another way of getting most popular. Thought it might be interesting to use recommendations rather than ratings or number watched. In all honesty, AP needs a top 100. So this might be the most acceptable form. *shrug*

It doesn't need one, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt (Though often times they're extremely subjective and don't accurately depict correctly). "Is having it based of recommendations the most acceptable approach?" As nice as this may seem I wouldn't say this would be the most acceptable approach. Most likely a combination between the number of people who have watched a show and it's average rating would be the most logical and accurate approach to a top 100, or having users submit a top 10-15 and basing a point system off their votes. (ex. Users submit a list of their top 10, their first anime would get 10 points, where as their tenth anime would get one. Based off these points a top 100 list could be compiled.) Now if we had multiple top 100's, then sure, I could see this one as being one of them. I wouldn't have it as a primary one though. ~rock EDIT: Or if you were just interested in knowing the top anime with the most recommendations to it then maybe being able to sort by that criteria would be a better approach.

There are no (enforceable) guidelines on what users should do, so we must assume the source data to subjective. No way to get an objective list from that. Accuracy can be easily achieved through corrective factors. See any maths book. But depict what? Before deciding on that, and thereby whether to count recommendations, ratings, or watched/dropped states, you have to have a purpose for the top list. Which question is it supposed to answer? |
