The mail tells that Nick_b gave me a comment, but i will first have to check out my profile thus the last two lines are imo not needed, unless the email reproduced its content,
but the latter i wouldn't suggest to do that

b. is there a way for users to select not to receive notifictions? i could imagine some users wouldnt want to be notifcated via email

c. how about a little box - could be js when you log into the users which says 'you have 3 new comments' with a link which show those

I'm definitely in favor of an ability to disable email notifications.

this is a 'it will happen eventually, but not for awhile', basically

I forgot to suggest to preset no notification at all, but users who would want can set so in their profile.
Also the email shouldn't reproduce the comment content either as preset or at all - just in case someone has the idea to request to have that way. Considering this the mailserver wouldn't need to send out everytime notifications and potential spammers wouldn't reach email inboxes.
