MY DNA IS MADE UP OF ANIME
|
So I was sitting there looking up anime to watch on the AniRec and thought, "Hey! It would be kinda cool to be able to look in someones profile and see what they've recently watched"
I was thinking of something along the lines of when a person marks an anime as "Watched" it would add it to a small list in there profile, maybe something along the lines of 1-5 long. So as a new anime is watched, once the list is full, then the bottom one would be popped off and the new one added to the top. I don't know. It was just something that popped into my head and I thought it would be a nifty thing to see. Don't know if anyone else would like it. ^_^;; ~rock

Yeah, I like this idea too! It's particularly useful if looking at someone who's got a huge list and watches anime really quickly, it makes it hard to keep up with what you're friends are watching. :)

I was thinking of it more of have it based off what you recently watched because it makes it a little easier to see what new or interesting things you've watched. If for example you but it by what recent episodes you've seen, then by watching a golden oldie movie followed by a small handful of eps of some other series would remove it from the list leaving you with something like...
RECENTLY WATCHED Real Drive 14 12/5/08 Real Drive 13 12/5/08 Real Drive 12 12/5/08 Real Drive 11 12/5/08 Real Drive 10 12/5/08 With something like that it doesn't really show variety to what you've completed. As for your example they can get that information of your watching list. As of now If I want to know what anime they've finished recently by looking at someones profile I either have no idea what, or I'd have to search through their watching list and find the new entry. Now if we use an example with my method it would look something along these lines. RECENTLY WATCHED Murder Mermaid Memory 1001 Nights Real Drive Maybe having this titled as recently completed would have been a better choice of words, though I went with "watched" because that's how anime you've completed are referred to in the AniRec.

yeah the thing is, we arent really set up to show when you marked each episode - but we COULD do something like:
Recently Watched: Mermaid Blah Blah 2 Blah 3 this would literally show the last 5 titles you marked as watched.

Eh, I could take it or leave it. It could be a little interesting, but not fascinating by any means.
As far as privacy issues, I don't really see any. The site doesn't keep track of what specific eps you've seen anyway, just how many. At most it might be able to say "you have watched 2 more episodes of pumpkin scissors". Also, unlike the global recent activity thing, this would only appear on your profile page, meaning that only those who are already "spying" on your profile will see it. One weakness I see in this is: How often does anyone actually complete a series?? Aside from movies & extremely short (ie, less than 5 episodes) ovas, a person's "watched" list doesn't get updated very often, which renders a feature like this rather pointless. It would be better if it somehow included the watchING list. Either series that you recently added to your watching list, or include series when you update your ep count, but limit it to once per series per day or some such. rockenroll4life- Unless a person is completely anal & obsessive, that 5 eps in a day would never happen. If you watched 5 eps of dbz in a single day, you would then come in & jump your count from 10eps to 15eps in one jump, only someone who's obsessive-compulsive would go in & update it after each & every episode.

Building on Drahken's idea:
Say I watched 5 episodes of Cased Closed, 3 episodes of Dragonball Z, 6 Episodes of Naruto, The first pokemon movie, and finished .hack//sign. Pending the order of when these are marked, the list would look like this: [green box] Detective Conan - 5 [green box] Dragonball Z - 3 [green box] Naruto -6 [blue box] Pokemon Movie 1: The First Movie [blue box] .hack//sign - 26 The most recent one would be at the top of course. (i just used the same order for the sake of making the list.) it would show the status of what you marked with the box on the left (green for watching and blue for watched, and stalled and dropped can work in there too), then would show the title of what was marked, and then pretty much the number you just marked (and marked as watched would automatically make it the last number of course. like .hack//sign). movies wouldn't show a number, as they don't have episodes (save star wars anyway). sound viable for the proposition? |

no, because then we'd have to store the last updated value of every single thing in 60,000+ user lists. (ie, before it was 5, now it's 3 - or even storing just the changed difference would be one more thing to keep track of in a crazy amount of rows). the only way this would not be insane is to just show which ones were marked last period - maybe

I would not be interested in knowing the last five episodes that someone watched.
However, it would be a nice little stalker-friendly addition to the profile to show the last five anime completed (i.e. marked as watched). It's not essential, but it would be something else that's fun. I do think it's nice to know what someone recently completed, just to be able to say 'Oh wow, you just finished Monster. Awesome!' And then proceed to start a conversation about it on the profile pages or whatever. Remember, we are all anime nerds. We are by nature recluse, buck-toothed, and incredibly anal. :D
