A feature that when you have an anime selected as "Watched" and the episode count increases it would automatically change the series to "Watching" with the number watched as the old max. Another way to do it would be to have a Notification system similar to when your profile receives a comment.
Would help for when a new season of a series comes out and just uses the same name as previous seasons. Otherwise the series would stay at watched and profiles could loose accuracy if they had not in fact watched the new episodes of the series yet. |

we add new entries for new seasons the majority of the time, so there should never be a case where you can mark something as watched (meaning you've seen every episode of the complete series) and then it changes to watching.

well what about animes like naruto where if someone set it as watched, that means they've seen all the episodes out so far.. but then another episode comes out, but they haven't seen it yet..

that is exactly how you should *not* use watched. if you are watching something that is being released, it's watching. watched means the series is 100% complete and you have seen every episode.
this is why we changed functionality to not allow you to mark watched unless a series is finished. if you mark watched, you are saying that you have seen every single episode that exists. if you cant finish because only x episodes of y are subtitled, for example, it should be stalled or watching.,

I think met means when naruto is shown on cartoon network, which the recent change in the watched/watching system doesn't affect. In the case of dubs, the full series is available in japanese & possibly fansubs, so the site allows a member to set it to watched, but people who are only watching the dubs could still mark it as watched at episode 52 (or wherever the dub happens to be at the given point).
Granted, members aren't -susposed- to mark it like that, but there are a lot of nitwits out there who can't grasp such a basic concept and do it anyway. I'm not saying that we should cater to the mentally infirm, just pointing out that it's still possible for them to do. (Unfortunately there's really no way to prevent it.) It is possible that a series may go from complete to incomplete, but unlikely to happen very often. I don't see a need to implement a feature for something which would only occur in maybe 1 out of every 50~100 series.

Usually I find that its more of an issue with series that don't use filler and have large gaps between seasons. The best example I can come up with is the manga Hunter x Hunter that was in the middle of a Arc and than almost completely disappeared for 2 years. It would be a waste to start a new entry for the new stuff that came out. I guess that Really doesn't happen often for anime though because if they stop they usually don't start again *grrr*
So, I guess what I really wanted is just a notification system that would tell you when the episode count changed on a series you had subscribed to or when a new season or offshoot series came out. I try to keep up with series that I like that don't feel finished especially if I know their plot continues farther in manga. It just feels like I end up missing a lot because sometimes its harder to find that kind of information on more obscure titles or most of the information is in Japanese. I guess I am just kind of rambling now and am completely off from the original topic... and I am tired so I need to stop writing and read over this again when I am actually alive so yeah
