The WYSIWYG editor for the site user profile sucks. I tried several times with different browsers and still can't figure out how to get the line breaks I want.
Also, if you save first with Safari and then Firefox, *without changing anyting*, line spacing will double. Is there a way to disable it? I'd rather edit HTML or BBcode by hand. |

I think you can use bb code in it, but that doesn't really help since there's no bb code for a line break.
I see that when I try to make a linebreak by hitting enter to go to the next line, it leaves a doubled space, as though there were 2 line breaks. I strongly doubt sothis will enable full bbcode or especially html, she's afraid people would abuse it & make the site wind up looking like the profiles on myspace. Still, the double line break thing is something that should be fixable.

Well... Not really. I just tried that & it makes a normal line break while editting, but then those linebreaks don't remain after you save, it just all winds up on a single line.

This means allowing HTML would not make abuse much easier. It can be done by adding 'code' to theme_advanced_buttons. Last edited by alexander; 11-11-2008 at 07:40 AM. Reason: added links |

i dont like the editor in your account options. its just so... stupid to handle. adding links in a popup, not textbased only(like on the boards) and those line breaks are really annoying as the arent just linebreaks because they are doubled... please - a new editor with full v3!!! PLEASE

tinymce is the best wysiwyg editor that exists, so we will continue to use it for v3.
we will not be allowing html or bbcode in the near future. i'll consider it for later on, depending on how much funding there is to develop minor parts of the site. as for the double line break, that's very odd and the cleaning function in place should fix it. i'll look into that soon as a bug. as for the line breaks in general, hitting enter = line break, that's how i chose to set things up by design. it's not possible to put in multiple line breaks in a row. if it makes you feel any better, the other wysiwygs available are a lot worse. most of them completely break on safari/opera, and tinymce works the 'best' for cross browser compatibility. if any of you want to go do some research and find out if the other major php-based wysiwygs are now solid on cross browser compat, i'll consider switching.

As I said, HTML could be allowed in seconds, though documenting what will get past the cleaner might take longer.
BBcode would be a huge amount of work as the available TinyMCE plugin is designed to use it for the backend, not the form. Quote:
I just noticed a <br> in my profile, no idea where that comes from. Quote:

what i saw when i didnt clean up multiple line breaks is ridiculous amounts of space and not on purpose.
html is absolutely not going to be allowed because it's a massive security hole, and we dont have the bandwidth to create a robust cleaner function right now.

It's your decision, I won't nag. But remember that without a cleaner you already have the security hole, it's just a teensy bit harder to exploit. The link to TinyMCE I posted says as much.
