I noticed for one new anime from this season (Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan) that the average rating displayed is somewhat lower than expected. And indeed, it has an average of 2.12 stars from 22 votes, however when taking the average of those votes manually using the "watching/dropped" lists, the result is 3.27.
Are there other criteria that affect the rating that I'm unaware of or is something amiss here? |

there's weighting involved - people who vote all one score for example are weighted massively less than people who have a more balanced set

Ah, I figured it might be something like this.
Thanks for clarifying. Edit: although I suppose it's more than simple weighting, since only 2 out of 22 had a rating of 2 or less. But the details probably aren't supposed to be public knowledge anyway. Last edited by Athar; 04-13-2012 at 05:58 PM. |

I don't think there's any intentional secrecy involved, although I suspect that the exact process is complicated & thus would take longer to explain than it'd be worth. It's like tax forms, they aren't officially secret, but they're so convoluted that nobody can figure them out. ;)
