[REQUEST] Custom manga chapters list

As you know AP manga section is in many cases useless because we cant keep track of manga chapters that we read as chapter list for many manga series is missing (there is just volume) or it's just not updated. I wish that you could add another chapter column like on screen below (with permanent 1-500 chapters) from which every user will be able to select number they want when for some reason AP chapter list is not available.

As you can see on screen below my list is full of "Chs" cuz it's missing on AP and I cant keep track of what I already read.

#1 The manga database isn't "useless" just because we don't list chapter counts for every single thing. It may not be entirely satifactory for the way you want to use it, but that certainly doesn't make it useless (and frankly, as someone who has spent a lot of time helping fill in information for the manga db, calling it useless kinda pisses me off). The only reason we don't list every single chapter count is because we pride ourselves on having correct information so rather than half-assing it and adding whatever chapters scanlators have gotten up to, we leave off information we cannot verify.

#2 Your suggestion seems like a HELL of a lot of work and will probably take considerable time/money to implement. I know nothing about how to design and code a site like this, but I get the feeling that this will not be an easy addition.

Personally I dislike the suggestion because it's a frankly confusing idea. Having two sets of chapter counts not only looks messy, but it could make the site look like it has incorrect information up. Plus, for those series that are consistently up to date or finished series that have complete chapter counts, the whole thing is entirely redundant. At the end of the day I'm not the one who has the final say, this is just my opinion on the matter.

(also protip... starting off by saying the database is useless before asking for what is likely a hefty request is possibly not the best strategy)

first off i completely agree, it's not very helpful when there aren't chapters updated quickly (or when they aren't there at all). i agree as well that we need a better solution - unfortunately i don't think there's a perfect one that will make everyone happy ;_;

having another col would definitely solve people being able to always add their own chapters - the reason i'm apprehensive about doing that (regardless of how difficult it would be to add - cause it would be very difficult for a lot of reasons) is because we try to pride ourselves on accurate data as much as possible. i think the goal is to always have chapters up, but if we have no way of knowing how many total a manga has, putting up partial chapters means we'll have wrong info up.

what i'm trying to do as a first step in the solution is just get a bigger team to update manga more often - we dont have a large team at the moment, so we're looking for passionate folks who can help update things more frequently. hopefully it'll at least be a good first step before we can find a better solution :)

Personally, I just ballpark my progress on a-p using vols. I use a-p to mark my status on the series as a whole, not specific progress within the series. Since i read the vast majority of my manga online, I just use my bookmarks to track specific chapter progress.
