Default [request...ish]Recs within a tag

Sorry if the name doesn't make sense, couldn't figure out a better way to say it.

Was thinking about the recommendation system here. I think it works just fine in what it does, but it has one blind spot: people need to have something as a basis with which to compare. So, let's hypothetically say that a person who has so far watched mostly romantic shoujo decides to try something new and venture into the world of adrenaline-filled action. They don't know much of anything about it, and the recommendation system is fairly unlikely to recommend it to them from the series they have. Same thing, but even worse, for a person who's just getting into anime and therefore doesn't know just about anything.

So, what I'm wondering about is, could series be recommended for a genre tag too, for instance? A "good place to start with this kind of anime" recommendation, so to speak. Of course, with sensible reasons, just like the recs we already have.

Added the -ish into the topic title because this idea probably has a whole bunch of flaws I just didn't realize, especially if most people don't stray from their favorites too much, but discussion and opinions would be welcome, at any rate.

You can achieve essentially the desired result currently, by using the advanced filters.

Go to: anime->browse by title->advanced search->select the tag/s you want->click on either avg or rank.

(In practice there is little difference between the two, though in theory rank would be the more accurate one. A high rank means that a large number of people liked it, while a high avg rating simply means that most people who ranked it liked it. It could be that only 10 people ranked a given anime, but they all rated it 5 stars, meanwhile everyone else on the site hated it to much to even watch.)

Keep in mind of course that while a high number is good in the "avg" column, a low number is good in the "rank" column.

A couple examples:
THIS is anime with action and adventure tags, sorted with the highest rank ones first.

..meanwhile..

THIS Is anime with action and adventure tags sorted by average rating, with the highest rated first.

The same process works for manga, just replace instances of "anime" in the above instructions with "manga".

Yeah, I actually thought of something more or less like this while pondering this idea. It certainly works (although I wonder how many of the more clueless people would figure it out) but there's one point I think it doesn't quite address. Recommendations are made by people who watched the show... or dropped it halfway and gave it .5, but anyways... and who are far more likely to have watched similar shows already (meaning their knowledge of the subject is rather different from someone who hasn't, meaning they'd perceive at least series that either contain a lot of shout outs or require prior knowledge about the genre in question or related things quite differently), in addition to which ratings are published for anyone and everyone as your opinion on the show. What I was thinking of was recommendations specifically targeted towards people who don't have much of an idea what to expect.
