[request]tags based on main characters

It would be nice to search for anime based on who the main character is. For example, I really like digimon and would love to find some anime like digimon. I do not consider pokemon to be like digimon at all. I liked Takato and would love to find anime with main characters like Takato.

I could search by character but that search brings up every character that has ever appeared even if they only appeared for less than five minutes. I don't want to have to watch an entire anime filled with silly, romance-obsessed girls just to catch five minutes of a courageous boy with some humor. So one way that you could satisfy me is allow character searches to be narrowed down to only main characters in a story.

Or, doing an anime search, you could satisfy me at least by allowing tags of whether the main character is male or female. Then I would do an advanced search for the tags: male main character, family friendly, tv only, comedy.

we've always let people search by gender, click 'advanced character search' on the characters homepage and theres a dropdown.

regardless, i think your best bet for this exact request is going to be to look at the anime recommendations listed for digimon. there's plenty of other recs listed for digimon that aren't pokemon, and the reasons listed on the right of each recommendation explain what the recommender was thinking. a large amount of recommenders tend to recommend series based on similar main characters, so i suggest reading the reasons in this case.

I think the character tags would need to be more specific and the tag system to cover more for this to be possible.
