Just wondering who all has this card. Or anything variation that is from the XXX series.
I've had this card for about maybe a year or 2 and have never been able to get it to run under 160 degrees F without having to underclock it. I have fans on it, I bumped up the fan on it to 100% and nothing. I underclocked it just a tad thinking it would give me a difference, and all it did was drop like 2 degress Cel ![]() Any ideas? |

It's possible that you just have a somewhat faulty card. I had an 8600 GTS for a while (just replaced it with a GTS 250) that ran at a comfortable 40C without doing anything. Is it possible that you're just not having good airflow through your box?

I leave it completely open otherwise the temp shoots up. It's in an AC'd room which is usually 65F. I have all my stuff zipped tied up in the case so it's out of the way. As for it being a faulty card idk. It's factory O/C'd and they tend to run higher in temps. But I even underclocked it and have yet to see a difference in temp other then a few degrees

Something's with your card, that's for sure.
Maybe it's just a not working properly temperature sensor. Try touching your graphic card (or put your hand near it, so you'll feel it's temperature) after few hours of PC running. |

Try to get another card. Borrow it from a friend, buy it, steal, make it by yourself, whatever. Anyway, change your graphic card and check, if it's also overheating.
If yes, then the problem is probably somewhere in you cooling system. If the temperature will be alright, then you can be quite sure it's your card. |

80 is a lot. I've noticed a drop-off in performance any time I've hit 70 on most cards. If you're running that high constantly, you run the risk of damaging the card over time. I do agree that if you can borrow someone's card of a similar model (something in the 8000 series) you may want to try it out to see if it's the card itself that's defective or something else entirely.

have you verified the temp with another device like a non contact thermometer or such....maybe the temp sensor in the card is wacky
