Something else to consider is the thermal paste being faulty on the card. If it's just got one of those clip on fan/heatsinks you can replace it yourself with some arctic silver or something. If it's not getting a good thermal contact it wont cool all that well.
Taking the side of the case off dropping the temps also probably indicates the case is cooling poorly also. A properly designed case should constantly push/pull air through the machine, an open case doesn't do this so much because it pretty much relies on convection currents replacing the air which is slower. |

Geforce 8600GT XXX is made by XFX and comes with 256 megs of ram. Their was 3 version of that card the UDD3, UDD7 and USD4. The differences were the gpu clock, shader clock and texture fill rate. and the UDD3 had physX and CUDA.
My question is which one do you have, of course swapping cards to test the heat is a valid test, but is not actuate. If i am not mistaken they were pre-2.0 PCI-E cards. You already reduced the clock rate, i would recommend driver update, remove the current first. As already mention it could be the card itself which on an average is the video cards memory. If none of these actions lead to favorable results then it is time for a new card, if you like overclocked cards i recommend EVGA. |

Well I managed to solve the issue cheaply:
Well My card tends to still overheat pretty badly to the point were I BSOD. So I decided to fix it. I didnt have molex fans so I made some. 80mm and a 120mm from a PSU I didn't have male ends for molex so I just rigged it the way I always fix ****. Electrical tape |

Another recommened upgrade if you want to keep the card, is to upgrade the case to a server class which would have more air flow and fans. I would also recommend you arrange the cables in a fashion that doesn't resitrict ait flow. Make for better cooling and nicer look.
