Understandable. But the way this world works is that you get what you pay for.

I buy a lot of shareware, and I've grown weary of authors promising "free updates for life", because that usually isn't very long.

I've never used AVG, but it's fast and good, certainly. Only time it processor hogs is when updating the program/database, and you can turn auto updates off, so long as you can remember to update it every now and then yourself.

Also, you can set it to run virus scans whenever your screensaver comes up, which is handy for obvious reasons.

If you set the scan speed to a slower speed it doesn't use up hardly anything. I don't notice any change in my computer's speed. I had Norton for a while(it came on my laptop when I bought it two years ago) and it scanned just as fast as AVG's slow speed setting.

I have used AVG, and I find it a bit faster but certainly better. Avast did it's work from the start, detected a few nasty hiding.
