All of the anime episodes I have are in rmvb format and it's not accepted by any softwares I know. I tried both with windows movie maker and sony vegas but it didn't work. I checked the accepted formats on many other softwares, but none work with rmvb.
Please help me out here if you can! Do you know any softwares that work with this file format? Are they any good? Actually I only know of one that accepts them - AVS, but it's not that great at all... I'm looking for a better one, similar to sony vegas maybe. I want to make amvs for so long but I can't because of this damn file format...

I don't know much about anything but maybe instead of looking for a program that they will work in, instead look for a program that can convert the file type to something that will work.
Just an idea, not sure if it'll work or not |

I'm looking for a software because I don't want to waste more time... I have over 200 clips it would take me ages to convert them all!
But thanks for the idea anyway...

You need realplayer or real alternative to play rmvb files. With real alternative, most players will then be able to play them. I use real alternative + the kmplayer myself.
Also, with real alternative installed, most editors that are capable of using directshow filters should be able to open your rmvb files. As far as converting them, you can try SUPER and mediacoder. I don't know for certain if they'll work, but they work on most formats, so they're your best bet (short of using real's editor, which you have to pay for).

It could also be something as simple as needing the right codecs. I'm on XP and I can play all the rmvb files I have on windows media player.
As for creating AMVs, if they aren't opening in the editing software that you have, then you will most likely need to convert them to a workable file type. I can't get rmvbs to open in Premiere so I imagine the chances of them opening in other editing software (unless as Drahken says you try real's editor) is probably pretty slim. Unfortunately I can't recommend any decent video converters (well not that are free anyway). River Past and Magic Video converters work well, but you do have to pay for them. So, yeah, it may take time to convert the rmvbs, but it's probably the best way to go about it.

Thanks for your advice! It seems like I have no choice after all... I have to convert all the episodes...
I'll try those you recommended, it doesn't matter if I have to buy them, I just need to make sure I find the best one.

If you install "real alternative", it includes directshow filters that most windows progs can use. In addition to making most players able to play rmvb files, it should be able to let many editors open them too. Real alternative is free, so it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

I have real alternative and I can play the files in any other players, but they're still not accepted in those softwares.
Oh I almost forgot, I can create avs files from the clips, maybe there are some softwares that might accept that format instead of rmvb? I searched on google but I can't seem to find any others.

as for video converter, im using alltoavi. as the name indicates, it converts nearly all formats and codecs to either xvid, divx, mp4(for psp) or the modified mp4(?) codec used in pmp(don't know about that). you can resize the video as well and select subtitles for hard subs later on. neat if youd like to watch anime on your portable media player!
AllToAvi Home though i was never able to test rmvb. i avoid that container format because its overall support is awful. and i hate real media. but it says on the site it supports rmvb as well and as for video editing software, im using adobe photoshop cs3, though its not for free. |

I have heard that windows media player 11 can convert the video, but i have no chance to try because i have purchased a converter before i got that clue. Maybe you can have a try and then use windows movie maker to edit your video. WMM is really a good editor.
ps:It's just my idea and I don't know whether it will work. And if it works, share with us, thanks in advance. But if you want to save time, just buy a converter as i do. well, I am now using iskysoft video converter. so far so good. http://www.hd-dvd-ripper.net/video-converter.html#139 hey, my friend just reminded me that this website can convert the video for free. You can try either. www.vixy.com |
