This is unclear -- did you manage to install and configure apache? Can you go to http://localhost/ and see a webpage, or do you get some sort of error?
Which version of apache? The 1.x versions are configured differently than the 2.x versions. Quote:

As to it not working, that's likely a configuration issue. Can you describe this a bit more -- error logs perhaps? "Tips" is a bit generic. Do you have any specific questions with regards to apache, mysql, or php/perl? Quote:
If you're considering this option I recommend looking into Ubuntu and running it off the CD until you're ready to consider dual booting. Quote:
While the newest/"unstable" release of a package (eg Apache, Mysql, PHP) may provide additional/newer features, it is prudent to run an older/"stable" version (more time for bugs to be found) in a production environment for security considerations. If you're running your webserver locally and your firewalls are configured to ONLY allow access from localhost or 127.0.0.1 or ::1, then this isn't too much of a problem; however if you permit access from a URL or an IP other than 127.0.0.1 or ::1 then you seriously need to take appropriate measures (eg, firewall rules, proper configuration, et all). If you have any further questions feel free to ask, but please be a bit more specific. Hope this helps! |
