Hello,
great site/forum you have here @subbing group members: lots of current rls's seem to have adopted a res of 704x396 probably due to a trend in raws, now i think generally for mpeg4 you can get better compression/perhaps standalone/player? compatabilty by keeping the encode to a resolution divisble by 16. so when encoding if the raw is 704x396 strech it to 704x400 instead which wouldnt really change the AR much but would improve compression\compatability? what do you all think? *i know lots of groups have very experienced encoders who already know this but are letting it 'slip' so just wanted to bring this back to light |

I would say no. While the algorithm may favor divisible by 16, it is not worth the quality loss, as it is, Encoders are already working with diminishing returns, you dont want to make it worse by stretching the whole video to add 4 pixels for a *potential* drop in filesize, which is probably inconsequential in the long run.
