I think that I can compare Princess Twi to this:
 The major difference is that Princess Serenity was reborn as Usagi/Serena in the modern world, and in Sailor Moon R, she becomes Neo-Queen Serenity. I think that Twilight is gonna be put in the same situation that Sailor Moon, Spider-Man, Jenny (My Life As A Teenage Robot), and Kyle Rayner (Green Lantern) is put into: despite having great powers (and greater responsibility), they still want to live a normal life.

And for those who feel that this episode was rushed, Meghan McCarthy confirmed on her Twitter that this was part one of three.
Also, it's the 65th overall episode, which is traditionally the minimum requirement for animated shows to make syndication, and for some shows, is the death knell (e.g., Disney's shows). This is also why season 3 only had 13 episodes, in contrast of season 1 and 2's 26-episode count. On the bright side, it's already confirmed that season 4 will have 26 episodes produced.

Turns out that Alicorn Twilight was already set in stone since Nov. 2011, and wasn't forced by Hasbro executives as many people thought (though I don't know how much did they affect the final product). Rarity was replaced with Applejack in "Spike at Your Service" due to Rarity being mean in the original script. Speaking of Rarity, we'll get Rarity episodes in Season 4.

I just learned that Discord is voiced by the same guy who played Q in ST:TNG. Pretty much same characters, it blew my mind.
