Hey Hitomi, decided to share your "Insightful commentary" with some of those guys from that 1000 page thread i mentioned. Here is what they think of it.

I can't help but picture the person in question really fucking loving Japan, completely unaware (or not caring) about all the social issues surronding it as a nation.

On a slightly more serious note: lolwut? FiM has its flaws, but it's not like it was made by a bunch of amateurs. The colors and art style (speaking of which, I thank whatever deity is convenient that Faust decided against using the original character designs) are perfect for the style of the show and the animation has very few hiccups. As for the fandom, we've gone through analyses of the Equestrian economy, political culture, and the goddamn exchange rate of bits to USD based on the price of basic commodities, SO...

Firstly, Hitomi has obviously never seen the show, she's just heard about it. If she actually watched it, she would see all the kitschy humor and such. Secondly, me and my bro (not a brony) had a discussion about ironic fans of the show, and we both agreed that the good part about the show and the fandom is that they genuinely enjoy the show (for the most part, at least. It's growing more mainstream so hipster fans may be discouraged.) We don't talk much about the shows and the episodes because we've talked pretty much about everything; in sixteen days we'll have plenty to discuss. Being an "Anime-Planet" user, Hitomi shows clear bias towards Eastern animation styles. She doesn't realize that Flash isn't a cheap tool to make easy cartoons. I honestly think that the ease of producing the episodes allows for more time developing the story.

It'd be fucking hilarious if this guy was a Touhou fan.

Seriously though, this guy sounds like a massive weeaboo.

I don't say this often, and I don't want to sound like a jerk or a whiner, but that's extremely idiotic. Just because it isn't made with your preferred animation technique doesn't mean any less blood, sweat, and tears goes into making it. And the fans enjoy the idea that the creators are watching, so why wouldn't the fans flaunt their artwork? Or is the issue here just the fact that it's not "anime", so it must be crap?

Well aside from the obvious general animation errors, you have instances like those Cutie Mark ponies hanging out and being seen together in the background before the episode they actually meet and form up. And it can't even be an 'episode out of order' thing since one of them is the very first episode.

Okay now you just sound like someone who believes that anime is superior to any other kind of animation. Crappy anime exists (especially when it's made for kids.) There's hardly a difference in overall quality.

Well, look at Digimon. It's got an actual plot, actual character development, actual memorable and amazing music by talented artists. It's a 'kids show' but manages to be one of the best anime out there (Tamers was even ranked #20 in a Top Anime Ever poll that took place on one of the main anime fansites in Japan, so that says a lot) MLP can barely hold a plot for a single episode and the characters have no development and actually regress depending on the episode (Twilight Sparkle is supposed to be the 'smart one' but she'll be dumb and ignorant if the episode plot calls for it. It has way too many idiot ball plotlines.)

I'm not saying crappy anime doesn't exist, but to say Japanese and American kids cartoons are on the same level is just inaccurate and wrong; especially this one. Look at Yu-Gi-Oh!, it's made exclusively to sell a card game, yet manages to have more complex characters, darker stories, and an actual plot than anything you'll see out of US cartoons. That's why I dislike comparing American and Japanese animation, the way they view animation is quite different in each country. Shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece are kids shows over there, for example, despite being worldwide hits all over the globe, including America. 'Kids shows' are pretty nice in Japan compared to here.

I've got input, but I'm also not a very wordy person. I believe the term is "Limited vocabulary". And the CMC huddling together is actually explained later. Something about, friendships being strong before they even begin or something like that.

Digimon wasn't made for five year old girls though. It may still be a kids show but it still falls into a different age demographic. And we've had plenty of series that have just as many good qualities such as Gargoyles, Batman TAS, Batman Beyond, Spectacular Spiderman, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Reboot, Avengers Earths mightiest Heroes. etc. The biggest difference I've noticed between the two is that American cartoons tend to be more episodic. Still this wouldn't mean they lack plot.

Well Yugioh started off as a pretty dark manga intended for young teens. And again, the shows I've listed have just as much plot and character development as Yugioh did.
