Do you know any good ps1 games that I should get? Thanks

Depends on what kind of games you like. Could you be more specific about genres and what aspects you like about those genres?
The PS1 library has around ~2500 games in it, granted, not all of them are good, but it's still a huge thing to narrow down and not everybody likes the same types of games. |

Well, as far as RPGs go, some of the more popular ones are:
Chrono Cross (Although, I'd recommend playing the original Chrono Trigger on the SNES first, if you haven't already, as Chrono Cross is the sequel. The PS1 port of Chrono Trigger is... iffy at best...) Obviously, you could also check out Final Fantasy VII and VIII since you've liked FF games before. There's also Final Fantasy: Tactics as well, but it plays pretty differently from others in the series. Grandia Legend of Dragoon Legend of Legaia (Not affiliated with Dragoon.) Legend of Mana (Related to the very popular Secret of Mana on SNES. A lot of people liked it, but it was also somewhat criticized by comparison to Secret of Mana.) Lunar: Silver Star Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Parasite Eve series (It's kind of a mix of Resident Evil with turn-based Final Fantasy combat) Persona 2 Suikoden series Star Ocean: The Second Story Valkyrie Profile Xenogears They also had a couple 'Tales' series entries on PS1. Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia. Wild Arms 1 and 2 also started on PS1 as well. I haven't played it first hand, but it has a pretty strong fan following. Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 also have a decent fan fallowing, but again I haven't played them firsthand. They also had some more entries for Breath of Fire and Dragon Warrior if you're a fan of the series. Both are pretty similar to a lot of other JRPGs out there. Could also try out Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It's an RPG, but the gameplay is more side-scrolling action focused, with RPG stat and character customization elements. There's also the Alundra games, which are pretty good, but it's more similar to an Action-Adventure game like Zelda, than RPGs, but it does have RPG elements. Those are the main ones I can think of offhand that fall into a Japanese RPG-ish category... Another series I can think of offhand is King's Field.... Although, it's more of a first person dungeon crawler, and I would most likely recommend avoiding it unless you have a high tolerance for one hit deaths, slow/unresponsive controls, repetitive environments and grinding. It's kind of a niche series... but it did inspire Demon's Souls on PS3 (which is a vastly superior game in my opinion. I never liked King's Field...) |

I think Kelsie beat me to the big RPG list -.-' Only one I can think of to add is Vagrant Story. It's not a traditional RPG in the sense that you just control one guy and the battle system is semi-real time, (it's also one big maze of dungeons, no real "towns") but it has all the stats, spells, customization, story, etc. one would expect. Different, but very good. Just make sure you watch the scene that plays after the title screen sits for a while, or else you may get a little lost with the plot early on.
(p.s. while I'm apparently doing some shameless plugging for the game, it is now available on the PSN) |
