Default Warner Hires Shane Black for Hollywood Death Note Film

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...eath-note-film

Quote:
Movie news site Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has hired writer/director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; writer, Lethal Weapon film series) to direct a live-action Hollywood film based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga Death Note. The report also states that Anthony Bagarozzi (of Black's upcoming film Doc Savage) and Charles Mondry will write the film's script.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the series from previous rights-owner Vertigo Entertainment in 2009, at which time screenwriter brothers Vlas and Charles Parlapanides were attached to the project. Actor Zac Efron has been rumored to star in the film; in a 2009 interview Efron acknowledged having a meeting but did not confirm whether he had the role or not, saying only that the project was not "on the front burner."

Update: Variety has confirmed this information.
I liked Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, so I might check this out. The way I see this movie will be, it will probably be like the first live-action Death Note film, but with American actors...

I'll probably watch it too, but I don't expect it to be good.

It's a Hollywood adaptation, so it's going to either be good, or really, really suck. Not that Japanese adaptations have always been steller either, just sayin'

Are they still pimping Zac Efron as Light? Might be a turn off for a few people :p

Not sure why Hollywood is still referred to as such these days, all it is now is a necrophiliac cash cow that rapes its own kind and tortures anything else.

This Hollywood movie'll kill'em all: I can already see its failure.

Death Note's story is not that hard to get right. It has awesomeness built into the framework, so it should be fairly easy to weave something minimally decent out of it. Of course, the fundamental thing to get right is who plays Light. Everything hangs on this, and I'm not sure Zac Efron has got the screen presence to be a brilliant versions. But he's not a terrible actor and his pretty boy looks might just work in his favour when the 'creepy' element is turned on.

Somehow, I feel positive overall about this one.

But back to topic at hand: they will rape the movie. They will make it kinderfriendly and I have very bad feelings about Death Gods. I just know they will tamper with the idea.
