Yeah idk about this deviation, but it seems like they are going to get back on track with the comic next episode. My hope with these characters is that they are all getting introduced then quickly killed off. Lol. The whole racism theme was cool to pull in, but those characters did seem a little bit like cardboard cut outs. I still was super satisfied with glenn, he was kind of smart assy compared to the comics, but I always expected him to be like that. They never give him those kind of comments, but he let Rick know he knew what he was doing when he first got introduced so I liked the way they did that. That actor is perfect for the part, he is just how I imagined for Glenn. I'm excited to keep watching the show to see where it goes.

Also they decided to spend 15 seconds of the episode with the camera focused on Andrea's ass in the beginning... not that I'm complaining.

Watching the first episode. Took me ten minutes of confusion to realize the scene before the opening credits was a flash forward...

Edit: Just finished ep.2. Entertaining show, some cheesy dialogue and stereotypical characters/events, but still fun to watch.

Episode three way pretty good, not that a whole lot happened. I hadn't realized that the woman and kid were the protagonist's, them finding one another was too unrealistic to buy. I'm a little concerned that the series is going to push the zombies into the background and spend too much time on the realationship drama..

Eh? It was blatant the kid and the wife were his family even wthout the shot of him looking at the photo of the three of them. You guys must be as bad as my boyfriend when watching stuff, just please don't tell me you weren't paying attention because you were too busy peeling the pith off of an orange.

Anyway, this is surprisingly good. I still don't understand the casting of Andrew Lincoln as Rick, then again I don't think Teachers aired outside the UK.

WARNING huge spoilers from the books.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of it, though it certainly has some flaws.

The biggest flaw right now is that they are clearly trying to have this first six episode run cover the first volume of the comics, which ends with Carl shooting Shane. Personally, by the way, I'm of the opinion that they absolutely MUST stick with that as the season ending shocker, because it was so integral to everything else that came after that incident.

The flaws are not that they are trying to turn the first volume into the first season, the flaws come from the fact that, when you think about it, not much happens in the first volume. Because of that, they have to really, REALLY pad out the story with invented characters and subplots. I think things will get a lot more interesting when they get rid of the fringe invented characters and get to the prison and then when/if they introduce the Governor.

Here's my thing, though. If they knew that they would have to pad out the first volume with new storylines before they can get around to killing Shane, why couldn't they have just introduced some of the characters who come into play in the second volume a little earlier? It really wouldn't change much of the story if, for instance, the group met Tyrese or Michonne in this first season, and we'd be getting better, more complex and well rounded characters rather than cardboard inventions of the folks at AMC who we know are more than likely just zombie food anyway since they were never in the story to begin with.

Also I thought Merle first scene was fantastic. And Cicada unfortuantly that is exactly what is going to happen if they stick to the books.
I never liked Shane in the books but I actually kind of like Shane in the show, however it looks like Lori think he intentionally lied about Rick being dead to get in her pants. I never liked Lori and the show has not changed that she seemed really bitchy in this episode.
But hey glen is still awesome.

Also a friend seems to think that Glen looked Like Ash for Pokemon in the second episode with the hat and back pack. I'm not sure about it but you be the judge.

YUP! I completely agree with basically everything you just said. Lol, I'm really hoping they make the end of this first season which is the 6 episode run that shocker. It will prove to the audience what the best part of the books are, no one is safe from anything in the zombie apocalypse. Also it will make them want to pay attention to the relationships and not the zombies which will be awesome. The prison stuff will be great if they can get to it quickly. Glen is my favorite in the show so far, he is perfect.

Walking Dead has always been more about the living than the living dead. Zombies can be fun and cool and entertaining, but they get boring quick without prey... I mean, people who have to survive in a world with their dead relatives trying to eat them. The relationship drama is what made Walking Dead an amazing comic, the zombies are one hell of a draw and are there to create that drama.

Watch Night of the Living Dead, exact same thing. Well, except it was just a one night thing, the world didn't collapse and the story ended the next morning.
