This episode should be titled "The Filler". Nothing happened. Next episode looks interesting as fuck. This? I'm suprised there wasn't 5 minute long scene where Rick takes a dump by a bush and we get to see how veins on his face buldge.

Nice work getting audience to like Merle. Turns out he reads a lot, used to be a soldier (it was super awkward when they squeezed this military routine with him when letting in Andrea) and is in general nice guy.

I'd say so. With him kicked out of Woodbury, he knows where his bread is gonna get buttered. He's got Daryl vouching for him too, so that could be motivation.
