I've read a few of Zelaznys (Jack of Shadows, Damnation Alley, Lord of Light, Nine Princes in Amber) Really interesting stories. They're my dads books from when he was my age :P For any Sci-Fi fans I'd recommend reading the Lensman series (which was made into an anime aswell I believe) by E.E "Doc" Smith, really good sci-fi. Also can't go past Robert Heinlein. The man wrote some incredible stories, but Time Enough for Love and Stranger in a Strange Land would be two of my favourites. But Dune by Frank Herbert is one of the best i've ever read, that is an epic, epic story line. I tend to mainly read sci-fi and fantasy though, haven't really read much manga actually! But I haven't actually read a book this year so I'm going to start my 50 with:
Dragon Haven by Robin Hobb, though I don't know if it's out yet! And take it from there! |

Dune by Frank Herbert is one of the best i've ever read, that is an epic, epic story line. I tend to mainly read sci-fi and fantasy though.... have you read the booksthat his kid Brian Herbert has written ....very good indeed they start with Dune: The Butlerian Jihad, Dune: The Machine Crusade, Dune: The Battle of Corrin and then you get to see all the main characters of the dune novle come on the scens with...Dune: House Atreides, Dune: House Harkonnen, Dune: House Corrino...i really like these books because there where so many questions raised by the dune series and now i know why ...hy the Atreides and the Harkonnen hate each other... how the ability to fold space happened who discovered the powers of the spice...and many more things the people of the dune universe where a stranger and twisted bunch....and now i know why.... |

Hey r-18 ^_^ yeah i've read the entire Dune series, couldn't put them down! The universe that they created is spectacular. I love how vast the story is as well! Have you seen the movie? I can't believe Sting was in the original film haha. Another good Sci-Fi that i've read lately are the Culture novels by Ian M Banks, he creates a really interesting universe and writes really well, might be worth a look!
Alondria, i've read Magicians Guild series too, good read! If you like that check out Magician by Raymond Feist, most of his stuff is pretty good, though lately he's really dropped the ball in terms of quality story telling, but there's heaps and heaps of good ones he's done! (You may have already read them, if so disregard this paragraph ^_^) Also check out Robin Hobb, she's done quite a few trilogies, really good books! Terrific plots and characters. |
