I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but -
UK, September 8, 2009 - In June, we rather depressingly reported that the live-action Akira adaptation was "dead as a doornail." Well it seems the project has now been resuscitated, with Collider (quoting a "trusted source") reporting that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby -- who helped write Children of Men and Iron Man -- are about to turn in a version of the script. Apparently the reason we've heard so little about the movie is because the pair have been laboring to get the screenplay just right. They also report that if studio Warner Bros. likes the script, Akira will go into production next year, in time for a 2011 release. The flick is still set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan and will feature the iconic motorcycle. It is not confirmed yet whether teddy bears crying milk will also be involved. This news hasn't yet been confirmed by the studio. |

I cant really say much for the Iron Man movie, but Children of Men was an awesome post apocalyptic movie, so they have the experience, at least dealing with post apocalyptic genres.

I liked Children of Men a lot and Iron Man was fun. Last I heard, the Akira movie was going to be based on the manga (making a trilogy or something) as opposed to the anime and that the two stories are very different. I wonder if that's still true. I've been meaning to read the Akira manga, but haven't yet. Manhattan, huh? Does that mean that the movie won't be called Akira or what? I vote for Phil- spooky.

If you liked the movie, then you definitely need to read the manga. It is so much better than the anime. |

The manga is such a in depth story with a real end. I agree with DavidSeth.
Anyhow, so if these guys are doing it, maybe it will be less a hollywood blockbuster popcorn movie? Like if they lean more to Children than Iron? |

Anyways, I don't see this being much good. It would be nice if it was, and I'm sure it'll look pretty, but I'm pretty damn doubtful of any thing else. |
