The Mummy

All there really is to say about this movie is that it was mediocre in every aspect. Simple story line, 2d characters, and practically nothing but actions scenes filled with special effects.

4/10

I just finished watching The Fly on Blu-Ray. Found it really cheap. Gotta love that horrific gore. Though it was quite disturbing. I remember watching it censored on television a long time ago. Man was I missing out.

That sounds like it could be mildly entertaining

Inglorious Bastards - 9/10. More than 2 hours long of fun coupled with a great plot. Sehr gut!

Which ending did you watch? The one where
she gets shot by the police
or the one where
she throws his body
? Apparently they changed it for the theatrical version, or something.
I watched this just a few hours ago with my friend and her boyfriend, and afterwards she kept arguing about how the guy was emotionally abusive and a terrible person, and trying to guilt me about how I preferred him to the girl (who was completely irrational). Anyway. It wasn't that scary. I laughed too. But I was mostly bored, and when I told them that, I was met with a round of "you just don't get it"s. Ugh.

For some reason I was conned into watching the two Heavy Metal cartoons for Halloween, probably because, in the end, they're the real horror. I had seen part of the first film but turned it off on the basis of how pitifully awful it was, and that was years ago.

In short, though?

Yeah, these films are absolutely atrocious. Incoherent storylines, awful animation (particularly true in the 81 film - the '00 picture seems brilliant by comparison, but in the cold light of day it's none too good either), and a childish attitude towards sex and violence which would almost be amusing but sadly it isn't even that.

I've read the odd bit of Metal Hurlant and liked the bleak, nihilistic and dry, very French black humour I saw - but this is either completely humourless (the new one) or horribly incompetently botched jokes (the old one). Unless you're 12 and you must absolutely watch all cartoons with boobies in them, or you want to deliberately subject yourself to something bad (we've all been there) there is absolutely no reason to ever watch this garbage. I love black humour, I love pitch black absurdist pessimism, and these films put that in a sci-fi context and then do a complete disservice to it.

If you want surreal, weird, non-Japanese sci-fi animation with gratuituous nudity and a little bit of violence, and two of 'em, then go watch Fantastic Planet and Gandahar, which are a lot better as far as this stuff goes (and the first is a legitimately brain-searingly unique work of insanity). They're also more erotic, but then, French, 'tis expected. Granted, neither are particularly funny, but then again neither are the Heavy Metal pictures.

I need to wash out my brain with soap now.

Tokyo Zombie

Just alright. Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead were a lot better. It felt like it couldn't decide what kind of comedy it wanted to be. Sometimes it would be kind of dry, then it would go with the stupid kind of jokes where they would kick off someone's head.

The best part was when that one guy thought he was a zombie, but it turned out the zombie who bit him had dentures. The best line was when he yelled at a zombie to leave him alone because he was also a zombie. The zombie just nods and walks off..

The whole second half of the movie was unexpected.

Knocked Up

I loved it. Definitely the best of it's kind. It stayed away from annoying clichés and forced humor and dramatic moments. It constantly felt refreshing and unique for being this kind of movie.

EDIT:
The Graduate

Well...I'll keep it very short. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's terrible. But it certainly wasn't good. And I'm stunned that it actually won an Oscar for best directing.

Jarhead

I didn't expect the whole "spiral to insanity" thing, and it was a pleasant suprise. Overall it was much better than I expected, but it was still kinda dull.

Black Sheep

A really fun splatter movie. Nothing more to say.

Perfume

It looked amazing, it sounded amazing, great acting, very creepy atmosphere and a good (albeit exaggerated in some aspects) story. I did however hate the ending.

Whale Rider

It's setting is unique, but it's still basicly just a story about a young girl seeking acceptance from a parent (or in this case, grandparent). It was kinda dull, but still alright overall.

The Last of the Dogmen

It's been YEARS since I last saw this movie. VERY happy I found it because it's such a great movie. It totally made my evening that much better.
