^ I thought the sequel was surprisingly good and opened up more potential for the sequel to follow that, but Genesis looks so bad I barely have the motivation to watch it :(

^ Theres a fourth on the way as well right? I'm sure i remember reading that the reason the third was so ridiculous was that it was a different person behind it whereas the fourth will revert to the original person. Could be wrong though

Well, according to IMDb there were two co-directors for the first two films and only one of the two for the third. Guess who's the duo's dumb one.

Anyway, I've heard enough good things about the first sequel so I'll probably be watching it as soon as tomorrow. As for the third movie... well I'm a completionist, 'nuff said.

Also, just me being curious: do these sorts of films arrive to you guys with the original voices and subs or do they dub them in English? I thought the voice acting was particularly strong in this film (and I'm not even a fan of Spanish cinema), so yeah, was wondering about that.

Generally, films like this would be released with a subtitle... only stuff that's likely to go pretty mainstream gets a dub in my experience because they are more likely to be picked up by big name and typical non-foreign language distributors. I'm no expert though. I'd rather watch an anime dub than a movie dub, I can say that much....

I'm of the belief that in other countries it's much more popular to dub over English-speaking movies?

^ Yeah, pretty much everything, both English-voiced movies and TV shows alike, get here dubbed in Spanish. Well, we do have pretty damn good voice actors here as far as I'm concerned (and I'm pretty sure my opinion is not just out of habit), so that's a-okay. I only feel like I'm missing out on something when I see references of, say, Morgan Freeman's awesome voice, and such.

Just beside us, though, in Portugal, nearly everything English is subbed. Maybe if it were like that here we wouldn't have so many useless people when it comes to learning a foreign language.

Winter's Bone (2010)

After seeing The Hunger Games, I decided to give this one a try because this was one of Jennifer Lawrence's first films. And she seemed like a really good actress but I wanted to see a different example of one of her movies, and I must say...I enjoyed her in this more than I did in Hunger Games.

First off, the story was pretty good. The girl, Ree (Jennifer Lawrence), living in the "hood" of the South and caring for her two younger siblings and her mute, depressed mother, is suddenly faced with despair when she receives the news that if her drug dealing father does not show up for court, their house will be repossessed and they will be left on the streets. Ree decides to take it upon herself to look for her missing father for the sake of her family, all the while finding herself deeper into a complicated mess. The story is very serious and very realistic, and it is very rounded and well paced all the way through. I felt that the end was just a bit...abrupt, for the lack of a better term, but the story all the way through was very good.

The music...well, there was no background music really xD But the banjo songs used in the film when the characters are singing, or at the beginning and ending credits are very good.

The acting; Very well done. Jennifer Lawrence is very good at depicting the strong female lead that is very tough, and yet has some vulnerabilities too. John Hawkes was very good in this film as well; I've seen him in a lot of comedies, so it was different seeing him in a drama. He was very serious during this film as well, and I must say it was very convincing. The rest of the cast was great as well.

And, that's about it ^^;

Overall, the movie was pretty good. I'd recommend it, it was entertaining, sad and yet very interesting to watch.

9/10

Gentleman Broncos

I guess it's difficult to parody bad movie making without making it a bad movie...it was hilarious though.

Age of Stupid (doc)
Pretty interesting, liked the animations, didn't care much for the framing or the preachy attitude, but I guess that comes with the territory.

Still want to see Broncos.

Saw Jiro Dreams of Sushi. the worlds most stoic documentary, yet I could not turn away from. The drive of the main Chef, known as the best Sushi cook in the world who has 300$ plates of food at a dinky 12 seat restaurant in Japan, was amazing. He does not know when to stop, nor does he care to.
