Episode 3 was the best so far. While that isn't really isn't saying much at all, it was still good enough to be fairly decent. The level of the comedy unfortunately started to decline as the episode progressed though.

I think my main problem with this series is... There's too much seriousness mixed in with too much stagnant humor. If they either evened it out or kept it humorous throughout, I think I'd like it a bit more.

Yeah, I agree. There really are no transitions between the humor and the seriousness. It just kind of switches to one or the other without warning or much reason. Even if it did transition properly though, I would rather it just be a full comedy. After all, who wants seriousness in something that's supposed to be light hearted?

it plays out just like a radio only comedy show...

When i found out it's based off one, i wasn't surprised at all. That said it's kept me somewhat entertained.. which is surprising considering i thought it would be complete trash.

O_o

There's about three minutes or less of anything remotely serious in any given episode.

Ever bother watching The Simpsons? One of the strengths of the earlier seasons was that the writers managed to work in a moral lesson after bombarding you with humor. It's fairly standard shtick in comedies. If they didn't even try to do something serious in Seitokai no Ichizon, it'd fail miserably as the characters would be even more two dimensional than they already are.

Honestly, it seems to me people just dislike this show on some level because they think they're supposed to. The gags may have been done a million times before, but to be perfectly honest, it's well executed, and the pace is fast enough I haven't been truly bored by any given episode. I get that there are people that are bored by this kind of show, but it's blatantly clear that it's aiming for a very specific audience, and if you aren't part of it, well, duh, you aren't enjoying it as much.

It's based on a light novel series.

If you didn't notice it Minatsu goes out her way to say she likes Fantasia novels the best (after talking about how she reads Index and Baka-test), and the journalism girl tells her to know her place or something to that effect.

I was never amazingly down on this. I just thought it was probably going to be pretty bad once the repetitive humor got old.

Interestingly... we're 4 eps in and i think it's gotten better, even though its not more original. Frankly.. this is probably the funniest show i've watched this summer. it certainly has me splitting my side consistently.

I'm sorta wondering why it seems like I'm the only person watching this right now. It's better then Sacred Blacksmith, and while it's nothing amazing... with this season being so weak for new shows I'd think this one would stand out a bit.

It's sorta like Taishou Yakyuu Musume last season... one of the best anime of the season and largely unwatched (that said i don't think it's as good as Taishou Yakyuu Musume, but then it's a pretty accurate comparison in relation to the quality of this season).

I'm really liking the show also, have been. In the first episode there were parodies and references that seemed out of place, after that, they have been done real, and, for the most part they have been relatively scarce.

The show also cracks me up, episode 4 was hilarious.

I love how Mafuyu finally convinces him to continue the novel by crying, and the minute it brings us to the novel he is in bed with 2 other guys. Lmfao.

Yea, I watched The Simpsons like 15 years ago. And that was the last time I watched it. It's not my type of show.

Now granted, I've stuck with this and I have been giving it a chance. Episode 4 was somewhat funny. Definitely funnier then the prior 3, but not as funny as some shows I watched earlier in the year. I also have a VERY wide variety of taste in anime and I'll watch almost anything, no matter how bad it gets (Ride Back, Princess Lover are good examples of terrible ones I stuck with this year).

I dislike it because "most" of the humor leaves me bored and yawning. When a harem leaves that kind of impression on me, it fails and gets a "no bueno" reaction. I'll most likely be sticking with it though because I have been giving it a chance and it has been getting better, if not mildly better.

In regards to Xennon's comment, I'll agree, that was hilarious. That whole scene was hilarious.

You're right. It was silly of to say "too much seriousness" as there isn't really much of any. I however still say that the transition to the seriousness was poor and I'd prefer there to be a lack of it. Such as ecchi fans don't watch an ecchi for a good story line, I don't watch light hearted comedies for character development. Also about what you said about the Simpsons: I believe that is the whole point of satire, to take a real life problem and show it in a humorous light while still seriously showing you that it is a problem. Furthermore, I think comparing Seitokai no Ichizon to the Simpsons is like comparing apples to oranges as they are two completely different types of comedies. I'm also a huge fan comedy including the types in this show so I'd say I'd fit in the target audience pretty well ;)

On another note, I glad to see that episode 4 kept the status quo of the last episode by being fairly decent. I'm also glad to see that the parodies don't seem to be awkwardly thrown in anymore, although it was a shame that I didn't understand any this episode. I look forward to seeing how this anime will end up ^^
