From the pov of someone who hasn't seen the VN, it was a perfectly acceptable introduction-episode.
You get to know the general aspects of the personalities, the fact that there's alot of tension among the family-"elders", there's a sinister witch who made the head of the family filthy-rich and the fact that the family-head now apparently cares more about the which herself then the wealth.
And the best of all, it didn't felt fast-paced at all, so from the pov of a non-Umineko-VNer, it was pretty much the ideal start.

Story-wise, a VN-to-Anime adaption can be nothing but a disappointment. There's just no way to fit 24h+ of text into a regular-length anime.

I hate the stupid "omg let me touch yer tits gerrr" and every girl has a huge rack. Stupid anime crap.

Otherwise, the episode was good...not great.

I heard this anime is starting to get really good in a month of something, when the second twilight starts.

This show was quite okay for a first ep, I'll have to see how it goes

Did anybody else find Battler such a random name?

You mean the second chapter. Each chapter has 10 twilights.

Just watched episode 2. I thought this was a great episode. Umineko and Higurashi sure are really good at making creepy faces. The last few minutes were awesome. I think those few minutes made the episode. I can't wait until next week.

Episode 2
Wow... I didn't expect them to kill off 1/3 of the crew already in the second episode 0_o

They sure know how to keep the creepiness going.

Question to the VNers:
After this ep I was wondering, Maria is the "reincarnation" of an important Higurashi (VN) character, right? Does this means she remembers things from those "other worlds"? She reminded me alot of how Rika acted in Kai

Wow, I didn't think they'd get that far but then again, it was paced pretty well. I just didn't think they'd show the shed in this episode.

This anime is getting bashed by VN readers pretty hard. It's like FMA: Brotherhood.
I think it's really good up till now. Can't wait for the next week.

Well, I do understand the VNers, I only have one VN to compare it with, but if I had watched the FSN anime after the VN, I would've ranted it pretty hard aswell. Thats pretty much the reason I decided to leave the When They Cry VNs for after Umineko :P
