So after reading page 1 in this topic and a friend recommending it i decided to take this anime under my wing, im glad i did as i almost missed what is shaping up to be something great.
Episode 1

ok so i must start by saying i loved this episode, for a first episode its rare for one to make such a impact, especially as well as this one did, i must say well done. So yeah the first half was very sad, i couldnt help feeling sorry for Kotoura, her whole life full of people leaving her but man even her parents? Seriously her dad takes the easy way out and starts sleeping around when she was a little kid to avoid being involved (seriously cheating is bad enough but when you have a kid so young?) and this was before the problem was bad, then his mum takes the same approach when shes had enough. So when she knocked her glass towards Kotoura-chan i thought that was bad enough, i honestly expected her to applogise or something but she turned the other way like SHE was the child, talk about bad parenting but then she just abandons her kid like seriously? She tells her kid she regrets her being born and shoves her aside to go to some random guy... this brings me to my next comments:
@Damius- i totally agree with you, i seriously hope not to see her in the show, or if i do i hope its Kotoura-chan rejecting her and telling her to die, if they try bringing her back for a 'make up' session i will get so angry, i hate how this happens in reality because its just not right, so i hope the mother does appear... to be rejected and then she can die lonely and miserable!!! ok i hate her lol

I was non the less happy to see Kotoura make a friend who will accept her :)

So yeah anyway this series is going to be one i like if that episode is one to go by, i really just hope not to see that woman of a mother return unless its to watch her suffer painfully >:]

Episode 1

I'm picking this up just for this episode alone. It's a very nice episode for sure and even if it does turn out very lighthearted and goofy I doubt that the comedy will be bad.

For all the hate the mother is getting, her father was actually worse. Luckily he didn't get a face so he won't return. But yeah, the mother is a horrible person, she could at least have left her saying a few encouraging words and apologizing instead of being a broken ass stuck up cheating horrible parent bitch.

about the mother

I'm not sure how much do people criticizing the mother actually understand her situation. Of course what she has done should be labeled as straight bad, but considering what she have been through it's perfectly understandable. After years of putting up with a pretty face(false smiles do really hurt one's heart, do mind) bearing with strange daughter, she had to deal then with her disastrous condition, walking for months from doctor to doctor and getting sent/laughed off at every single one she had been too, getting totally no help(rather disdain and rejection) from husband, she still tried to stay by her daughter, though understandably she got in completely messed up psychical condition and started drinking, while being even more shunned off by the husband. Still she tried, but got yet another fatal blow when the daughter has sold the both off in a straight awful way.
I'd like to see how many of smart people here would actually survive that kind of life without snapping off. She wasn't special and understandably lost her plot totally. Crossing the line between love and hate.
Understandable she would try to start off a new life by getting rid of the epicentre of destrucion.

Heartless i know, but that's how life is, isn't it?

At least there was a result of kotoura starting off a new school life with a clean sheet. There was probably not much her mother could have done to help the girl anyway. Tragedies and transitions are always painful, but I think the drastic breakups are often the best, while of course not the easiest solutions.

btw. am i the only one who always feel the need to edit almost every single post right after posting it, often a few times?

Though true thats how life is and i sure don't think i would be no shining star in her position i do look at it that some parents have kids which have some mental/emotional problems (yeah not supernatural) which can hinder maturing or forever make them a life of tough work, some kids form birth to death require never ending assistance and so on (i hope you know the stuff im getting at cause i am terrible with medical conditions xD) but my point is some these parents manage and some despite all that love there kids to bit, im not saying all but yeah.
The point is with her she was a terrible example who gave up so quickly, it must be tough having someone who can read your mind but a good parent would surely think how hard it is on the child as well correct? Never bound to normal living and anytime anyone resents her (like ohhh i dunno, her parents?) she can tell, it must surely hurt if you walk past you mother and she is thinking how horrible you are, especially for a small child- one non the less who is friendless and bullied - her mother wasn't alone in the feeling but she choose the selfish path which matches her.
Like i said in my earlier post i also agree the dad was crappy to but due to his lack of screen time and as someone said above he remained faceless as to say he didn't matter not much detail we can go into on him.
But yeah i agree, at least the series properly lifts off to a new school where though like the rest she is hated/feared shortly after transferring in she did make herself a friend :)

na. she's a bitch straight up. it doesn't really matter how much shit she gives you, you don't get to abandon your kid. or slap her around. that's the responsibility you took on when you decided to raise her.

Manabe makes a fine point later when he states that people who are going to leave will probably do so anyway. their family situation was tenuous without her influence sparking things up; while she may have been the catalyst for the whole thing collapsing, in the end, that's just an excuse.

well don't worry about stating your opinion, even if it sounds a bit hostile(not really in this case), we always appreciate meaningful discussion.

I agree that she is defenitely in a bad light when you look from the point of parents keeping up with their disabled children practically forever. If you look closelu Kotoura's mother was actually trying to keep up, but was undone by the ambivalent father(if she was given support i bet she could hang in there), and while still trying to endure the situation, the thing that finished her off was spilling that both parents are cheating, which finally caused famliy breakup, probably too much to take. Maybe some mothers would endure even that, but well, not happened here.

I guess we could discuss that on and on, but I think we can just write it off as classic case of family tragedy - while most people just point at the poor child, we should note that parents are human beings too, and do suffer deeply too.
Though of course no sympathy should be given to father, I think he should be actually pointed as a main culprit. Mother at least tried, goddamn father didn't care.

well i guess that's my perk, i like to look a bit further than just a surface. and do not really enjoy clearly imperfect human beings straight out judging other people. just wait until you get judged.

Well that was just about the most unorthodox opening to a show of this type I've ever seen.
However, if the start of the show had actually been that second half instead then this wouldn't have been nearly as captivating or engaging.

Hell, I love the main guy just for not being a fuckass.
Also, he's a lot more fun than he initially seemed.

They didn't waste any time, did they? I'm glad we got the whole dramatic backstory over with first rather than wait half a season to find out why she's all alone. I'm excited for the characters, even if it ends up being light hearted an goofy from now on.

My one complaint being that her classmates hated her right off the bat, other than Manabe. Sure, they were shown as trying to befried her, but their thoughts from the start were pretty malicious and that doesn't happen. It just doesn't.
