I agree saying sorry changes nothing, it annoys me endlessly in real life to see how many people say 'sorry' and the other party forgive them like it was nothing big then given time the same happens again, sorry is just a word which is why i agree to your other point.
If she was sorry she would say it and then go, ok they go to the same school so she can't just vanish but like have nothing to do with them, keep to herself and count herself lucky nothing worst became of this.
I know its a bit to real world for anime but if i was Manabe, now having seen the faces properly of the culprits and gained the confession of the one who hired them i would drop them all into it now and let the police deal with it. Hack even if nothing happened im sure that would show them exactly what they did lol.
seriously who hires some guys to beat someone up out of jealousy... never mind when its the guy your crushing on (imagine that conversation if they ever got together lol). As for the whole *Rough him up* ... seriously? Im sure "Roughing" someone up doesn't consist of hospitalising for one... and im even more sure its meant to be used more as a threat or intimidation, seriously how did she expect this to play out in her head? he gets a bruise and the whole thing blows away like nothing happened? seriously, she must be dumb to say the least, i kind of hope her grades reflect how her brain works, badly :3

The difference between this situation in Anime and this situation in real life is that we can quantify contrite. If we could be absolutely certain how remorseful someone is for their actions, our society would be more forgiving too.

We know as viewers:

That she really is sorry, that she was blinded by jealousy and that she will most likely become a friend to Kotoura, who has saintly levels of self-sacrifice and forgiveness. We also know this would never work in the real word because remorse never fixes criminal acts. It's one of those things we're just going to have to let fly because it's Anime.

Just like her perverted grandpa, while funny, would also be something to worry about in real life.

But for once i might be able to see your point of view, i admit if she forgave her mother like this (which is likely going to happen eventually) then i would just flip out and well be 110% disappointed, seriously i can deal with letting of her classmate i guess (if i had to) but her mother, no fricken way, i hope she died or something

forgiving her mother. It reminds me a bit of the situation in Nekomonogatari with Hanekawa.

When Oshino plays devil's advocate and explains to Araragi how much it sucked for the parents to live with a bastion of righteousness in their home. Always being corrected, reprimanded and then this degenerating into beating Hanekawa.

Kotoura's parents went through a very similar thing because of her power and her inability to control it. Now, this doesn't excuse them in any way, but if there's some small sliver to hang on to as the reason to forgive her parents, this might be it.

Actually, I pretty much bet she does want to do that, and that she doesn't want to "forgive" but rather be "forgiven".
Sounds absurd, and it pretty much is, but it's not hard to understand that if you try to see if from the point of view of a little child who was abandoned by the parents she loved.
If given an opportunity to "fix" the problem, not many would easily reject that, even though it is a pretty morbid scenario.
Now, the father is a bigger asshole than the mother in my opinion, but she got more screentime than him, thus we mostly saw only her turn into a complete jackass.
In any case, he was never given a face, so we'll probably never see him again.

Anyways, that last part of the episode could have been a whole lot worse.

I've really enjoyed the first 4 episodes thus far, Kotoura is ridiculously cute, Manabe is pretty funny and Yuriko seems like an interesting character who i'll grow to really like. Moritani is, as everybody else has said, a total bitch, but i hope the writers manage to change the viewers opinion of her in a believable way.

But it makes sense that she was forgiven, i mean Kotoura can easily tell if she's genuine or not in her apology so it isn't like she's just taken the apology at face value and moved on. We don't have to like it (i certainly don't) but it's hardly something that's going to make me stop enjoying, or stop watching the show. People can do things that are out of character in accentuating circumstances, and Kotoura has the ability to see that.

I don't think they're going to best best friends all of a sudden though, there will be some apprehension and trust issues over the next few episodes, at least i hope there are.

Oh, and on a lighter note, that opening theme song is amazing! It's the best of any anime i've seen since Angel beats :)

I agree to that, kotoura at least has the ability to see if she truly is sorry so as long as they don't become best friends i will live with it (though i still don't like Moritani i will manage).
I do agree though, the OP is just amazin, i listened to it non stop just because i love it :3 its so adorable as well :3 Im in a similar boat there, i am favouring it at the moment and as long as it keeps this up i think i will throw it into my tops :)
