I was half thinking this guy may get cool power-ups like speed skates and sticky bombs....

For those asking why MC realized too late that was a timer, I have a theory.

It must be a psychological thing where you just don't think properly after having finding out your stranded on an island, you just found these little cube like items and they explode and the first person you've seen on the island was attempting to kill you. All without understanding what the hell is going on. It's all too fast to process the events that is happening to him. No one can say with a straight face that you too would be able to quickly react to everything that had happened. (Not saying everyone but the majority)

I can't sympathize with the main character.

I really hope for character development in this series.

Here is a good question. Are we supposed to sympathize with him? Think of the other gamer protagonists in recent anime. Are we REALLY supposed to care about them?

Wouldn't all your gears shift to immediate survival? I mean, his first instinct was...hmm, this is bad, I better throw it away before it reaches 0, i.e. a basic understanding of countdowns etc activated in his brain. I seriously doubt this is something you can miss even under extreme duress, let alone someone who (even if only virtually) is supposed to be some bombing grand master.

Tried it. You guys have basically already summed up how I feel about it. I can and can't relate to the MC in certain ways, but he definitely did NOT earn my sympathy. He immediately appears to be a terrible person... But that could end up making him a great main character by the end, depending on the route they take. So much room for development.

The show's concept is beginning to become tired, and the dialogue was terrible. Not only that, but we learned virtually nothing in the first 24 minutes. I understand it's the first episode, but c'mon... They could allude a bit more than that to keep our interest. I will say that the animation was purty and it was somewhat entertaining to watch.

The reason I decided to try it in the first place was because of what first came to mind after reading a description last week; "Bomberman For Grown-Ass Men... With A Side Of Lopsided Irishmen." And that's how I will choose to remember it. So for that reason, I guess I'll stick with it and see where it goes. Who knows.

Actually, I think I just came up with a better title for the show than they did. Someone should pay me.

I think its obvious that we're not supposed to sympathise with him.

He is self centred, obnoxious and a douche bag, basically a worthless NEET.

This whole deal with him being dropped off in the middle of an island to fight for his life in a situation similar to the game he spends all his time on is, as I mentioned in my first post some type of punishment for his terrible ways.

Who's behind it all? The game developer? His mum? His uncle? The show throws those questions out there and I think that side of this conspiracy will at least be interesting.

But more importantly, this situation he's in, is one he has to learn from, maybe change and grow. So yeah the potential's all there for some character development over the course of the show. Whether we end up sympathising with him by the end of the show, of course, remains to be seen.

No, we're not supposed to sympathize with him. However, the last time I felt this was for a main character was that fucker from Accel World - avoiding spoilers, he never made me sympathize with him and felt he deserved all negative attentions he got through out the show's run. My comment about hopes for character development is that it won't run the same basic route of MC being a dick and never being forced to realize that awkward circumstance isn't an excuse for said dickism.

In short, no, we're not supposed to. But, I'm hoping we do by the end of the series.
