Oh yeah. Gin and his nose. Yet another example in the endless list of times Gintama instantly transforms a cool moment into a hilarious one, then it's back to awesome the next second.

I bet one of the things this story will do is

make it feel all the more conflicting and hateful when Sasaki eventually shows his true colors to the world, presumably in some later arc.
Though my guess is that the arc will essentially end with the shogun really becoming the shogun.

Ep 259: Some badass action at the end along with learning more about Gintoki's past, with a bunch of traditional Gintama comedy in the beginning to serve as a contrast. Its hard to beat that. Awesome.

This episode was all sorts of awesome. I couldn't contain my laughter most of the time. I mean, banchou Kagura was the kicker.

Ah, episode 259 is one of those episodes that makes the whole "I don't want to wait every week" thing understandable.

The ending was kinda predictable, and I wonder what's going to happen when it comes to the Shogun.
We saw that one shot of him overhearing his uncle from behind that wall. We know he's going to do something. Personally? Obfuscating stupidity. Big time.
And that makes perfect sense in this case, with an uncle like that. Plenty IRL leaders spent some time doing that until the moment they were able to take the upper hand.
And I doubt the Mimawarigumi are going to (be able to) replace him, so he'd have to.
The shogun always did seem a wee bit too stupid, yet never really disillusioned.
Sure, he is quite ignorant of the plebeian ways of life, but we know that he is perfectly aware of that too, something that already signals some intellectual depth.
I really think it would be pretty damn cool if he was just playing the tool the entire time.

Wow, that's a lot of info on Shoyo-sensei's end, after so many episodes!

The 2008 OVA's troll trailer made me think Shoyo died in a fire when Gin and the others were kids, but apparently he was taken away and they waged war to bring him back. Instead, they got a head in the end... Quite more tragic.

Anyway, another hilarious/awesome episode - this time, as it is common in Gintama arcs, leaning more to the awesome side.


Also, THOSE FIGHTS.

That is what shonen battles should be like.

Fast, smooth, no dialogue, imaginative use of surroundings, surprise attacks, blood.

^Yeah, it was such a nice surprise. Felt like they had all forgotten about him (and the backstory involving him) or something.

This arc is one of the awesomest ever. Episode 259 kinda made me cry. I was really hoping Katsura would appear, doesn't look he would, unless he pops up in the remaining episodes. But still an epic epic arc.

Totally agreed with all of you here. Good arc and this was an exceptionally good episode, they threw a lot of goodies in it.

Anyone who tells me what ost track was played at 16:20~ gets a thanks from me :3 I've heard it before..

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this is the best arc ever. Not yet anyways, but the action scenes in this episode sure hit the spot.
I feel it is somewhat rushed though. I mean, the whole thing is really damn grand, yet it comes quicker than I can comfortably comprehend the plot-wise scope of this.
They are essentially in the middle of a coup, and it happened in barely one episode.
Wowzers.

Also, I love Soyo. She needs to have more appearances after this.
