Not sure if I added this before or after clicking the Reply button, but anyway, I believe the humans would resort to Kiroumaru sooner or later. None of them have travelled to Tokyo, and it is known the Psychobuster is there. Even if just as a chance, they'd want to know if the queerat can provide some useful information. And if they didn't come up with the Psychobuster solution themselves, they'd still have some questions to make about the massacre of his troops. They wouldn't have imprisoned him in the first place if they hadn't thought he could end up being useful at some point.

As for Kiroumaru choosing to pretty much imprison himself, if you think about his going to the temple beforehand as his sole chance of getting in contact with humans without getting killed on sight (I mean, how many people in the town wouldn't instantly kill him, no questions asked, Saki and Satoru aside?), it's not that farfetched.

And the axis of the theory here is that the help of humans (Cantus) in the Tokyo exploration is absolutely necessary to achieve his goals for some reason, so making himself useful in a desperate situation was about his best shot. It would have been more suspicious if he just happened to arrive at the temple in time to lend a helping hand, instead of being already there for other reasons.

I've got to admit, though, in just two episodes I doubt all of this could be satisfyingly explained, and at the same time give a proper conclusion to the whole story. It'll probably end up being something way more simple, even though this makes sense to me. Well, experience says that the more I try to look into something and create hypotheses, the wronger I end up being about everything. Heh.

None of them seem to be aware Kiroumaru has been to Tokyo. He has to either be in the room while they're discussing the plan or he has to offer the information some other way. There's no guarantee they'd check with him either - Satoru and Saki override the authority of the priests to even be in the same room with him, which is a risky idea on their part (said priests were content to leave Kiroumaru rotting in there indefinitely).

Kiroumaru would have to consider as a real possibility that he wouldn't be given an opportunity to go to Tokyo, or that - even having saved Inui - he wouldn't be sufficiently trusted. Everything in the actual episode depends both on Satoru and Saki's intervention and their personal trust in the queerat; Inui, the one he saved, is not the one who acts.

More relevantly:
The queerats have basically won. They has the child. They can gradually destroy the human population with the child, it is only a matter of time. The only real threat to this we know of is the Psychobuster. So if you're on the side at least nominally led by Yakomaru, you either want to keep the humans away from the Psychobuster, destroy it, or acquire it for the team (as insurance against rogue non-death feedback trained humans could prove useful in the long term).

We know that queerats alone presumably cannot acquire it as Kiroumaru lost a large part of his army in his unsuccessful mission, and we've seen monsters that have required quick strategic application of fire to dispell (something a queerat army could presumably use). But assuming Cantus users are necessary to reach Psychobuster, there's no evidence that any more than just the child and the small force of queerats Kiroumaru claims Yakomaru personally leads is necessary.

In other words there's no obvious reason Kiroumaru's deception is aiding the queerat cause.... though it could be aiding him, personally.

Speculation: Kiroumaru may have always wanted the Psychobuster. His failed expedition may have been to get it. He may be essentially trying to get it again because once he has it, he has leverage. It makes him useful to the queerats, he could destroy the child which is the base of Yakomaru's power with it (...replace the child with Satoru somehow?) I don't know.

I mean again I could be wrong here. I think the big smoking gun suggesting that Kiroumaru is on Yakomaru's side is simply that he survived the annihilation of his colony at all, which is incredibly convenient, but I'm not quite sold on what actual purpose his deception would serve.

If there's one thing I do feel fairly confident about, it's that FTNW is going to have a great ending. It might screw up and if it does I'll eat these words, but the series had only had a handful of lapses in explaining its elaborate plot and it's been one of the most consistently good - nay, great - anime I've seen in years.

Agreed.

I'm fully confident that we'll get a satisfying conclusion, i mean the series has had very few hiccups in the first 23 episodes, and even the ones it did have have been pretty small. Everything tied to the main plot or anything of significance has been told pretty masterfully thus far if you ask me.

Of course we could get a dud, but i think the chances of that are pretty slim, and based on what we've seen so far it would have to be an uncharacteristic fuck up of epic proportions to ever turn out that way.

Maybe i'm being overly optimistic, but this series is one of my favourite animes ever up to now, so i'm confident we'll get a great ending. And man, i'm usually pretty fucking negative about everything as well...

Oh, don't get me mistaken though. I think the ending will be pretty great, too. Just saying that it won't include something as long to explain as this if it's going to be wrapped up in 40 more minutes.

I still find it crazy that there's only 2 episodes left, like you say there is a lot that still needs said. I still think it will all pan out fine, but 40minutes isn't long for what we have left to cover.

Under 1000 units sold though, that shit actually makes me angry.

It's not a good age for anime. For the good anime, anyways. Japanese people have too much shit in their brains.

Wishing for at least Shingeki no Kyojin to do well. If not even that works then I'll consider it a lost cause.

I have high hopes for Shingeki too, i try to avoid spoilers so i read just enough of the plot so i could decide if i wanted to watch it or not, but it sounds interesting.

I've tried to recommend FtNW to some real life mates as well as people on another forum who are into anime, and most have looked at it and decided it doesn't look pretty enough, or have enough moe to pick up. Or they've listened to me rave about the story and decided it's too complex. Only one person has actually picked it up thus far, and he's enjoying it.

Fuck people.

I don't know anything about Attack on Titan's plot, but it looks like an adrenaline shot of pure action entertainment, so I suspect if it's half as visceral as the PVs suggest it'll do fine... but then what the hell do I know anymore I would have assumed Psycho-pass was a huge hit.

...I suppose there must be some people who think like that or it wouldn't be popular.

My question with moe is usually something like 'how much moe am I willing to live with, and is the show going to reward that patience or not?'

Hopefully this show will get a bit more attention after it finishes and we get to see whether it's solidly a modern classic but ah who the hell knows.

I would have assumed Psycho-Pass would be a huge hit as well, based just off how cool it looks. But again it's probably a victim of good story telling, it didn't divulge everything straight away and it took a while for everything to fall into place, and most people don't seem to want to put the time into a story to reap the rewards, they want it spoon fed to them in heavy bursts during the first few episodes.

I was actually recommended Psycho-Passs by a friend of mines from university who was already 10 or so episodes in, and he said it was an awesome cop-show set in the future and it looked cool, that's the description he gave. Now that he's at the same point as me i've realised that he isn't really watching it for the story so much as the visuals and how cool he thinks Kogami is.

I try talking to him about it the same way we discuss each episode on this forum, but it's very clear that he either isn't overly bothered in the story or he isn't capable of analyzing the story in any sort of depth, so the conversations usually end with me sighing and saying something like

"how cool was it when Makishima killed that dude" or "OMG, Sybil is BRAAAAIINNSSS".

Just so he can get involved again!

So i guess he's like a lot of people in that the story is a bit beyond them so it limits their enjoyment of a great series. This may be because they just didn't watch intently enough to understand the story and it's nuances, or they just don't care for such stories in the first place and would rather watch something else.

Hopefully this show will get a bit more attention after it finishes and we get to see whether it's solidly a modern classic but ah who the hell knows.

Yeah, hopefully it's one of those shows that picks up after it's run is over and people realise how much of a fool they've been for not watching it in the first place. I really hope it is because based on this story i'd love to see the author' other books get anime adaptations. I'm not one for reading books, i mean the last book i read for my own enjoyment was probably when i was 8 or 9, but i'd love to read FtNW if it's translated over into English, purely to see how much was cut or changed for the anime.
